Re: Daily p.m. disconnections for multiple ISP's

I finally gave up yesterday evening 18/10/24 about 20:30 and had an early night. The problem seems to have been developing for several weeks but yesterday was by far the worst that I have experienced with at 6 hours effective downtime and multiple disconnections/re-connections.

What I know:-

1. Only FTTP users are affected.

2. Multiple ISP's are affected but only those using Openreach infrastructure. My daughter is on Virgin full fibre and has not had any problems.

3. Users over a widespread area around Chesterfield are affected but there has also been at least one other similar post from a user in a neighbouring exchange area.

4. It was only via social media that I realised that it wasn't just me.

Additionally, what I have read on Facebook posts:-

This is not restricted to the Chesterfield exchange and engineers are 'playing whack a mole' from exchange to exchange. There have been other reports of what engineers have said but there's no point spreading unconfirmed stories.

As Virgin have a totally separate infrastructure that is not surprising.

Quite so, that's why I said it, in other words only people in the area on FTTP are affected but not all people on FTTP in the area.

@longedge Thanks for the comprehensive summary Smiley

... if I've understood you correctly, only people in the area on FTTP *and* on Openreach infrastructure [ie with whichever Openreach-based ISP], are affected (?)

Given all the variables, a Venn diagram would be constructive here if anyone could create one.

Re: Daily p.m. disconnections for multiple ISP's

Further digging around on social media indicates that Openreach MSO IMT112629/24 re a torn fibre cable at/near the exchange with an estimated resolution time/date of 5pm 21/10/24 refers to the problem.

Any idea where someone found that IMT reference, @longedge ? Might be a useful bookmark for my 'Help' folder.

Can't help really, someone copied/pasted a reply from an EE support agent into a social media group conversation.

It appears to confirm what@MatthewWheeler said in another thread.

OK, @longedge  - it's given me something else to have a search for though - tomorrow. 😀

Re: Daily p.m. disconnections for multiple ISP's

Fttp user in Hasland - s41

2nd time mine has disconnected in the last month.

1st time 2 day downtime
2nd time disconnected Friday morning and still offline now. Was told Friday it was due to be fixed by 5pm Friday - that was at 6.30pm…couldn’t give no information other that it was a MSO - strange as it hasn’t effected neighbours on other ISPs.

If they are not on the OR network, it won't.

I'll hazard a guess that your neighbours are on Virgin Media,  @jab1 gives the explanation 🙂

Or CityFibre/an altnet, @longedge , in which case, they don't use the BT/OR network.

Re: Daily p.m. disconnections for multiple ISP's

I thought one was on sky fttp, will check tomorrow.

Frustrating for a drop out before the weekend - knew on Friday it was never going to be fixed.

I’ve been on fttp for 8 months and to be fair connection and speed has been spot on up to this last month - at least it sounds like it isn’t isolated to plusnet.

Re: Daily p.m. disconnections for multiple ISP's

I'm in Chesterfield but don't seem to be affected, my current session is  '6 Days, 19:52:15 (on going)' and would be longer if I wasn't doing some testing and needed to disconnect last week.

My partner told me about some posts on one of the local Facebook groups, let me see if I can do some digging.
