Since moving to Unlimited Fibre Extra a few months ago my connection had dropped every 5 days at almost exactly the same time in the evening. The log of disconnections for October so far is:
04/10/21 – 8:43pm
09/10/21 – 8:33pm
14/10/21 – 8:38pm
19/10/21 – 8:43pm
24/10/21 – 8:31pm
It has been happening as regularly as this ever since I upgraded to Fibre Extra. Previously on standard Fibre the connection was up for weeks with no drop at all.
I am sure it isn’t at my end. Have tried 3 routers: Plusnet Hub One, BT Business Hub 6, Draytek Vigor 2862n. Exactly the same with all. Nothing else turning on or off at this time.
Also tried manually re-booting router to see if this would stop/change the schedule, but no, even with a manual re-boot in-between it still disconnects every 5 days at the same time.
I know that a disconnect every 5 days is not classed as a fault, and if it was random I guess I would live with it, but it isn’t random. It is so regular it has to be caused by something.
Apart from this the speed is great and never drops. Just this regular 5 day disconnect cycle.
Having suffered it for months I REALLY wish someone could find out what the cause is and fix it.

Thanks for your post @Nemo154
I'm really sorry to see you're having intermittent issues with your connection.
Do you have anything that comes on in your property like a boiler at the about the time your connection drops?
Also I've arranged for the stability profile of your fibre service at our suppliers end to be increased from the speed profile to a more stable one, which will influence the automated dynamic line management (DLM) software at the cabinet (the green box in the road) to prioritise stability over speed, so it doesn't try to push too much speed down your line it may not be able to handle, because you've said that the problem only begun after moving to fibre extra.
This change should start to take effect within 24-48 hours but as all the change is doing is influencing DLM, it may take around 7 to 14 days for you to hopefully see an improvement.
Let us know how it goes.

Thanks @Gandalf
There isn't anything that turns on every night at that time. And if it was something turning on at that time it should happen every night, not on a 5 day cycle.
I will monitor how it goes, but I really doubt it is the speed profile. If it was connected to trying to "push too much speed" down the line then surely it would be more random, and it would happen when more data was being used. However, between the regular drop-outs I have no problems with the line at all. No disconnects and no drop in speed.
The regular 5 day disconnects happen whether the line is being used or not. It seems completely independent to the amount of data being used at the time.
But I will keep monitoring it and let you know. Thanks again.

No problem @Nemo154
Assuming you've checked your side, there isn't really anything else we can do bar arrange an Openreach engineer visit to investigate further, but I can see you've mentioned on a previous post you don't reckon this is a line problem.
There wouldn't be anything our end that'd cause your connection to drop in this way across multiple routers.
Let us know how it goes though.

Hi @Gandalf . You said to let you know how it had gone. Well nothing has changed. Broadband speed still great and no random disconnects at all, but still getting a regular line drop every 5 days. Whatever is causing it even adjusted when the clocks changed to keep it at the same time.
In a previous post I listed the disconnects up till 24/10/21. Since then line has dropped every 5 days:
29/10/21 - 8:35pm
03/11/21 - 8:37pm
08/11/21 - 11:50pm (When this one was late I thought it had fixed, but no was just late!)
13/11/21 - 8:36pm
18/11/21 - 8:41pm
As said before it only started when I moved from Fibre to Fibre Extra.
From previous posts it seems no one has any idea why this is happening, which probably means I just need to live with it until the contract ends at which point moving to another provider seems to be the only solution to reset whatever changed to cause this. But just wanted to let you know.
Many thanks.

Hi @Nemo154 thanks for getting back to me.
I'm really sorry to see you're still having connection issues.
Having tested your line today, I don't think there's anything we or a provider can reset to fix this.
Personally, I'd recommend we arrange an Openreach broadband engineer to investigate further.
When you upgraded your fibre service to fibre extra, no physical changes are made, but more speed is pushed down your line so if there's a physical problem somewhere then it's going to be more noticeable on a higher speed package as the connection will basically be falling over itself.
If you're happy for us to arrange an engineer visit, let me know and I'll raise a ticket on your account you can reply to, alternatively you can raise a fault at faults.plus.net. Either way though let me know.

Hi @Gandalf .
Happy to have an engineer visit. However, I had an engineer visit about 6 weeks ago as BT had to replace the telegraph pole we are connected to. I spoke to the engineer then about the issue and she assured me that there was no problem with the line. She said it had to be something with the ISP. So I am not hopeful that they will find anything.
However, at least another visit will help to clarify if there really is a line problem so please go ahead and arrange this.
Many thanks for your help.

Thanks for getting back to me @Nemo154
I don't want to go against the advice an engineer's given you, but the fault was raised as a phone line problem not broadband, so it's possible the engineer may not have trained to look at broadband in-depth.
Also there's nothing our side that can make your router drop your connection in this way.
Can you reply to the support ticket I've logged on your account Here with when you'll be available for an engineer visit?
If you can post back when you've responded, I'll make sure we book the engineer as soon as we can.
There may be nothing an engineer can do due to the frequency of the drops, as our suppliers generally deem an intermittent connection to be 3 drops within 24 hours or 6 drops within 72 hours, however I think it's worth us arranging a broadband engineer to check things out, based on the fact the issues started when you upgraded your fibre service.
Finally if you log into your router settings, do the logs give anything away? Feel free to post a copy here.

@Nemo154 Is the router losing and then regaining sync, or is it maintaining sync and just dropping the session momentarily?

Hi @198kHz .
I think it is losing and then regaining sync. But how would I tell for sure? Just posted the log from the last disconnect so perhaps this will show.
Thanks.

Aye, it looks that way.
Very odd that the one on 8/11 (Message#6) is a real outlier. 🤔

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I have identical loss of DSL connection on a 5 day cycle.
