Re: Download fine Upload slow

@Lovelythanks A question - are you on Unlimited Fibre (40/10) or Unlimited Fibre Extra (80/20)?

Re: Download fine Upload slow

I’d say 40/10 because that is close to what i receive but I don’t know if it’s what I pay for?

@Lovelythanks Somewhere on your Members Centre (the Home Page, I think), but as I'm no longer with PN, can't confirm, it should tell you.

If you are on 'Fibre Unlimited' then the max U/L you can get is 10Mb/s, and you need to be fairly close to the cabinet for that.

@Lovelythanks

 Were you trying to download or upload something else as well as the time, like on a video call?

Also try reducing the video quality on your video uploads, you do not need High Definition for meetings.

Put your phone number in here and tell us your estimated speed range for VDSL.  https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL This will tell us the maximum speed available to you.

Re: Download fine Upload slow

Hello @Lovelythanks

Thanks a lot for reaching out. To be honest there's not too much we can do here, as per BT's Availability Checker, your line can actually only attain upload speeds of up to 9.7Mbps. A broadband line test on my end this evening is showing the upload sync speed to be 8.1 Mbps, which is within estimates.

I could try fiddle with some of the settings on your router though, which are likely to improve your wireless connection, this will mean the connection dropping for a brief moment or so, so let me know i you'd like me to go ahead. Smiley

Re: Download fine Upload slow

I think I’ve determined it is a hardware issue. The video was stuttering when I shared it using my laptop but when I did it with my iPad it was reportedly fine. So I need to look at my laptop.

thanks for all the help folks.

@Lovelythanks

As I suggested yesterday, have a look at the resolution of the video that you are uploading. If the laptop is set to upload in HD or higher then you will have issues.

Re: Download fine Upload slow

@Lovelythanks

There are two connections which need to be consider

1) the upload speed to the internet from the modem/router

2) connection between the laptop and router

So:-

1) has been confirmed to be the best you can expect.

2) Are you using wired or wireless on you PC?

If wireless are you connecting via 2.4 or 5GHz. Although 5 GHz gives a faster speed as with you move away from the router then the signal will get weaker and the speed will drop, walls and furniture act as a signal attenuator. This also happens to a 2.4Ghz connection but the signal does not suffer as much.

A solution would be to split the wireless signals and give the 5GHz a different SSID

For the the Hub One click on 192.168.1.254

From the Home page >Advanced Settings >Wireless

Click on 5 GHz wireless tab

Change the Sync with 2.4 GHz to No.

Append the name by adding -5 to the SSID.

Use the best signal for the PC location.

@Baldrick1 advice is valid for both wired and wireless connections.

Hope this helps.

Dan.
