@aledh I hope you didn't use Plusnet email , or have domains hosted on the old account ?

Re: Existing static IP lost after house move and upgrade to FTTP

@aledh that's good news😀

TBH I'm trying to understand for what earthly reason CSC thought that cancelling the account was a sensible idea!

Even if it was unresolvable and you were going to have to migrate supplier to get a static IP, then cancelling was the wrong way!

It would have ceased the asset, thus delaying any migration🙄

Fortunately our local 'wizard' was around to pick up (some!) of the pieces...

Re: Existing static IP lost after house move and upgrade to FTTP

Just my thoughts - but which ISP's offer static IPs these days?

Seems like CSC's have no training these days and are thrown into the job blind.

Re: Existing static IP lost after house move and upgrade to FTTP

@MisterW  Well, initially they put a 30-day timeout on the account so it could be migrated to another provider, but it sounds like something was not entered correctly at the original time the location move was started, which triggered an automatic cancellation of the account or something along those lines.

It's just a shame that the CSC don't know how to deal with these slightly unusual situations and refuse to believe anything can be done other than to leave PN until I started mentioning tech people by name!

Re: Existing static IP lost after house move and upgrade to FTTP

It wasn't cancelled by an agent, all they did was place a marker to waive cancellation fees, if a transfer completed. It looks like it was a system error on this occasion. Although still apologies again for the poor advice.

Quietly confident it won't happen to the new account, but I've flagged this up to try and get to the bottom of it.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

@aledh

Well, initially they put a 30-day timeout on the account so it could be migrated to another provider

The ONLY reason I can see for doing anything to the account would be to mark it to 'write off' any ETCs that may otherwise have been due if the account was migrated. Perhaps that's what they were trying to do ?

edit:post crossed with @Gandalf , seems that WAS what they were trying to do.

Yeah, I know that, obviously 😀 - but find me another 'consumer' one that does. 😉

A & A

and another small ISP I can't think of at the mo.

Fair enough, although I never think of A&A as a 'consumer' grade ISP - unless you want to pay more than your average home user. 😀

Thanks @Gandalf .  The sequence of developments over the last several hours has been rather surprising, all things considered.

... went from "everything swiftly sorted" to quite the reverse.

It would indeed be constructive to know *how* (and why) the account got cancelled.

Logic would seem to indicate there's a blip in the system somewhere - which needs fixing before this happens again.

Re: Existing static IP lost after house move and upgrade to FTTP

I did have a £10 credit added to my old account due to an initial delay in activation. I guess that is gone but I'm scared to ring CSC now in case it all goes pear-shaped again!!

Hope you get to the bottom of the problem so that it doesn't affect others in the future.
