Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

L2C is simply Openreach terminology for Lead to Cash. Meaning it is not a simple installation, and would need an experienced installer to try and find a simple solution.

This part - don't like it all! - sound like not very easy and too complex job to do FTTP.

I think you need to read the entire thread mate, I don't have FTTP because everything is being mucked about, OR wont come check if the external work is fully complete, Circet engineers can't install ONT because they can't find where to start from and so on.

The stats were from a couple of minutes ago on my current connection. I was just pointing it out to show even on my current connection nothing is fine there either.

Apart from an elevated D/S SNR, I can't see anything wrong there. Can  you post a full screenshot of the result of BT Broadband , obscuring your phone number?

That is because the relevant key information is missing - line speed, error rates, interleave depth.  SNRM and line attenuation in isolation tell us nothing.

The BT report of what is available still needs to be compared to what is being delivered, as reported in the router stats.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Very true, so, @TheRealDabhand , can you please also post the relevant current data from your router?

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Guys I was just posting the noise levels I was getting today, just as general information, they should be in the range of 6.0-6.5 normally for me. Today they went sky high, its ok, I wasn't looking for a fix for that or anything, was just having a gripe about it with the whole FTTP not getting installed because OR hasn't finished the work and is difficult to get them to actually physically come out to do so debacle at the same time Tongue

Thanks though Smiley

@TheRealDabhand Until your FTTP is installed, you need to deal with issues on your FTTC  connection, unless you just want o moan, in which case let us know and we will ignore you.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

If you are struggling with installation and perceived poor performance, fixing the latter is probably a swifter solution.

SNRM up / down or whatever in isolation from the sync speed / time since last connection is an irrelevant consideration. All that a variable SNRM tells you is either there is interference either at the time of the last sync or at the time you looked at the figures.

The source of the interference could be anything and is probably located in your home. Now is the season of amongst other culprits Christmas tree lights blighting xDSL services.

A gripe isn't a moan, I will say that for a start. A Gripe is a sign of dissatisfaction on something that happens continuous, which my issue has been for a long time now.

Basically was speaking to the other user, who was trying to be helpful, and I just was chatting his way, and noticed my download speeds hit near rock bottom and decided to just post the noise levels in a snippet. I wasn't really looking for a fix, I knew with the weather etc it would improve eventually, hence why I did the comical "meanwhile" above the pic. And I know people aren't always aware of Japanese humour either, especially with "yare yare" - a comical phrase used in a lot of comedies and anime - as a "oh what now" "it can't be helped".

It was like a "ahh of course it would" type of moment, something to pile on top of the FTTP problems I have been having. A bit of sarcasm if you will.

I think your ending to your post was a bit not nice, no?

You won't get any resolved until you post your router stats otherwise you will wasted everyone's time

I have been having this issue a lot over 3 years, it's nothing in the home I assure you, the phone master socket is newish too. The sad fact is the problems always at the local exchange where it is in an open environment so wet weather and the cold will affect it a bit. But today was a bit higher than normal, but it has dropped considerably since then.

Which is why I am not too fussed about a fix for it Smiley Thanks though.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Where SNRM is variable as you report, it is when it is low that you need to be concerned. When it is high it implies that there is presently less noise than there was, thus there should be fewer data retransmissions due to line errors.

In my case the opposite was true, download speed was effectively reduced. I knew it was a short hiccup, think it lasted 10-15 minutes and it fell down again.

Either way, hopefully on the 5th I will finally get that ONT installed and go from there, if not I think I will have to throw the £6 per day automatic refund, as per Ofcom rule, since the 1st Oct to PN. Sadly that would be the only way both PN and OR will actually work hard to make this work, PN have done what they can, but I think they are failing to push the importance of going out to physically check so OR just checks their system "Oh this postcode is done, so external work is done."

Don't want to do that, as I would prefer to finally get fibre in, but sadly what other options do I have when VM isn't even in my area?

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Update - Finally installed, and no the internal work wasn't complete. Thankfully had Chris from OR come to do the job, he called me at 9:30ish and asked if he could come earlier than the 1-6pm, thankfully that was a good decision.

So guy came, removed panel from communal cupboard to drag in fibre, then the guy looked everywhere to find a way to get the cable into my home, drilling under the communal staircase into a back cupboard, around the door frame, through the wall, around another door frame to the nearest power-point. He then went to get some extra stuff so he could put in the other 2 flat's also, and he joked about it will be a miracle to hook their homes up, I gave an idea to drill through the ceiling of our cupboard where he came in and up through each flat, so they too can have the same set up as me. I don't think they are interested for now, but may change their minds when people start talking about how good it is.

Also, side note, both larger blocks of flats either side of us, has had fibre up and running for nearly 3 months, for some reason we were ignored and put down as complete, despite the obvious entrance way in the middle of the L shaped building we are all attached to.

Anyhoo, Chris gets everything set up ONT on the wall, then tries to test it, oh oh apparently it was set to SAS1 and not SAS3, so had to phone up - which seems to be Indian agents, to see what they could do - the agent wanted him to go to the main exchange in the town, he wasn't having any of it. So he puts a laser on the fibre and out he went tracking the problem. Took him a while, he had to call for a 2nd person, to watch over equipment while he did it.

Back he came, and now it was on a constant red light, so checked outside again to ensure everything was in solid. Even changed the ONT, eventually it got working, and it took a while for him to do a green fast test. Overall 6.5hrs job.

This could have been quickly avoided all this pain and hassle, if OR just came to check in the first place. But hey ho, Chris did the job right.

One problem I did have was my PC was no longer able to connect to 5g when it has done all the time previously, tried a few things in the router didn't work, weird. Thankfully was close enough for a lengthy Cat6e I had. But happy days.

Tested on a Wabbajack mod pack for Skyrim - only 240GB of mods to download, and it flew through them quite quick, just over an hour and quarterish.
