"Minimum Guaranteed Speed: 165Mb" (extracted from the original e-mail).
Wired connection. (Plus an IP phone with no active calls and a couple of network switches on the local LAN)
Hitting the 'again' button I got 155 (and a bit) download. With a reduced upload.
Hitting the 'again' button again I got 172. With an increased upload of 67.
Again, again, again. 187 (down), 66 (up).
All without contacting PN . Perhaps the BT speed tester provides improved figures when repeatedly queried?<shrug>
50% hit-rate on the MGS.

@Yoda89 When using Wi-Fi, you will never get close to a speed-test result of 900Mb/s - there are too many variables involved, and in any case, the Wi-Fi components in your machine are just not designed to handle that speed. I am on a 100/20 package, and my figures are consistently 104/18 - because I am not asking my laptop to achieve more than it is capable of.
I'm not going to check back, but I'm fairly certain others have demonstrated that only a wired connection is able to handle the higher speeds.

One other aspect to consider.
You can't get 900Mb/s download speed on WiFi with the combination of router and devices you have, but the other advantantage of the higher speed packages is a faster upload speed which you can use and depening on nthe nature of your use may or may not be helpful.
If the higher upload speeds don't justify the price premium, if you can still change back to the 145Mb/s package without penalty I guess you should.
There are intermediate speed options as well which might be a closer match to what you can achieve over WiFi.
With many ISPs there is little mention of achievable WiFi speeds in marketing broadband. Only a few mention WiFi speed and then generally it's in connection with an inclusive mesh WiFi system.
Perhaps you need a beter WiFi system rather than a faster connection.

At some point the overall bottleneck moves from the router to exchange connection, to your kit. Typically that’s around 300mbps. To go faster you need wifi 6 capabilities in BOTH the router and the connected device … but even then, a single device is unlikely to max-out the higher FTTP speeds.

There is NO settling period on FTTP.
That's my understanding of it but the fella that installed my GB service last month told me it takes around three hours to settle.
I was getting the full speed minutes after him leaving once I connected by Ethernet cable.

My 100/20 service was instant - I ran a test immediately after rebooting the router to pick the new service up.

Maybe the installer told me that in case I wanted him to stay around to correct any issues?

@Mav the settling time quoted for FTTC is down to the time it takes the DLM to adjust to find the optimum speed for the line.
There is no DLM on FTTP , there's nothing to adjust! FTTP either works at the profiled speed or it doesnt. So as @jab1 says , it should achieve the profiled speed immediately.

Maybe, @Mav , but my installer was happy to wait until I had confirmed all was well, even though he had three more jobs to do that day.
