Full Fibre - Nothing but inconsistent wifi speeds since fitting over a few months compared to pre FF

Hi there,

We got full fibre a few months back. Promising 500mb. We knew this wouldn't be exactly speeds especially for wifi devices but we've had nothing but issues and not sure if anything more we can do.

Before FF via Landline broadband we had consistent 50-60mb download and 10-12mb upload on wifi and on 4-5 devices at least at a time, barely had any buffering issues on any device simultaniously.

Our old phone line was in the living room.  (We stay in a flat, four in a block, ground level).  Openreach insisted the best place for the new box would be at the back of the property in our room across from our exchange.

Since the start we've had such a varying speed level. On ethernet yes we where getting great speeds right next to the hub in the bedroom but on wifi 2/3 devices was 150-200mb one min then 20-30mb next and then buffering galore.

Tried wifi and ethernet extenders but didn't seem to do much. Plusnet then where good, Openreach confirmed we could get contract speed via ethernet so job done. Therefore plusnet wouldn't entertain a move of the new box.  Fine. We managed to change our new contract to 145 option as at height of things got 80-100mb about what we had before on wifi and was cheaper than our broadband before incl landline.

However as summer has went on, the erratic nature of speeds continued and 2/3 devices crippling everything. Chromecasting to the tv is awful and not sure what else to try.   Not an option for firesticks, laptops etc to be etherneted up and we didnt have a prolbem at all with old landline broadband. Not needing superfast triple digit download speeds per say just a consistent figure we had before that multiple wifi devices coped with no bother.

Changed channels, ranges, switching off 5ghz etc etc.

Is it possible for you to run a network cable from the ONT to a better place for your router, back in the front of the house?

OR put the ONT in the best best for them, not you.
Was a member for years, but moved from PN fttc to fttp from an AltNet. Getting 940Mb up and down. Happy to stay on here and try to help others. 

In theory yes we could but it would mean a cable from one corner of the bedroom, through into the hall, into the livingroom - diagonal route.  Cost a bit in cabling and getting someone to do, not something I could do.

I did test the hub in the livingroom connected to an ethernet extender (with the other extender plugged into the ONT.  It was a bit more stable, however 2.4ghz only devices such as smart camera and smart bulbs stopped working.
