Sorry, @MisterW , I know it's early on a Saturday morning, but I can't quite understand your comment above.😁

Sounds reasonable, @outcast . I've not had my caffeine fix yet, so maybe brain isn't lubricated. 😉

Re: Full fibre not reaching min speeds

A thought. Providing the OP has nothing (like doorbells/smart lights), that explicitly need 24Ghz, maybe they could disable that band on the Hub, the they would force everything to use the 5Ghz.

Re: Full fibre not reaching min speeds

Yes, that is what I'd do - if I was only relying on the supplied Hub Two (and not bothering to use proper WiFi access points)

You have to wonder why anyone needs more than 250Mbps already being achieved over WiFi.

Not unknown - I've seen a few posts from people with the same issue. Having said that, I have quite a few, collected over the years, but never use them.

Re: Full fibre not reaching min speeds

A significant and increasing number of households are WiFi only these days. Especially amongst the younger demographic.
Some ISP's have a built in on net speed test built into their supplied routers which removes the need for external devices to test. Not sure if the Plusnet routers still have this ?
You can check out but you can never leave ( easily)

Re: Full fibre not reaching min speeds

Who was your previous ISP?  What speed of service (500mb?) ?  What model hub did previous ISP provide to you?

As pointed out by others, ISPs only guarantee speeds with an ethernet connection.

Some ISPs also offer minimum 'wifi' speed guarantee to any room, some times at extra cost.

eg. Sky used to quote minimum of 3 Mbps to any room, but I see they have upped it to 25 Mbps for full fibre products with their new wifi-6 hub.

The Hub 2 is an old Wifi-5 router from 2019.  Best you're likely to get is 400 Mbps over 2x2 wifi in same room as hub? Most smart phones only have a single antenna (1x1) so may only see half the speed, eg. 200 Mbps

On ethernet, I see 518 Mbps down, 72 Mbps up.

On wifi using my laptop with 2x2 wifi to my old Asus wifi-5 router about 3m away through one stud wall, I currently see 418 Mbps when I made this post, but have seen highs of 470 Mbps.

Maximum possible wifi speed is 'typically' around half the link speed reported in Windows btw.

Does does it get any better or do they keep turning it down 😒.

To try to get this thread back on topic.

There is a general misunderstanding regarding guaranteed speed. This is the speed that is supplied to your router and can be fully accessed by connecting a computer directly to the router using the provided Ethernet cable.

Plusnet are unable to 'turn your speed down'. There is no plot to rob you of your contracted speed.

Evidence suggests that your router is receiving the full contracted speed and your problem is the wireless link to your devices. This is beyond the control and outside of the responsibility of Plusnet.

As has been suggested, your problem is either the distance between the router and your devices or interference caused by neighbours using the same WiFi channel. I suggest that you follow advice already offered and come back with the results of your tests and/or ask for more specific advice. To help members help you, describe your set up, such as the distances involved and whether there are walls and/or floors between the router and your devices.

Re: Full fibre not reaching min speeds

You can easily check the speed your router is connected at, even from a mobile device.

Open your favourite browser (e.g. Safari on an iPhone) and type 192.168.1.254 into the search and enter, you should see (eventually) the Plusnet Hub Manager  screen.

Just tap on  Status near the top and you'll see the connection details. Status, type, downstream and upstream speeds, uptime etc.

@oliveoyl983 what are the downstream and upstream speeds reported and the connection type?

@HPsauce

Here is an example of the Hub Two status screen for full fibre

Only the WAN speed is reported
