Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

Many thanks Andy  Cheesy , that's roughly where I thought it was.  Cool
There's now (old Streetview images) a big FTTC cabinet a few yards further along which has been there for ages but has been conspicuously ignored by any BT workers or contractors.  Cry
Any idea why they would leave just that one cabinet on a whole exchange otherwise all converted?  Crazy
The other side of the road a few yards along (on the corner) is a less ancient cabinet with a ridged top; I presume that's a Virgin one though.

Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

I can ask the question about the delay. It can take them up to a week to get back to me though, so you'll have to be patient Smiley
Normally they are busy fulfilling BDUK contracts. All the other cabs on your exchange were done under BT's Commercial Programme and the last one was completed on 1 Jan 14 (PCP12). Seems like a very long wait for your cab to be finished.
I think most of the cabs there are VM ones.

Yes, I know that one, another friend of mine is on Cab #12 and was waiting so that he could switch from Be (Sky takeover) to BT FTTC. All done now.  Cool

Thanks, no rush but I'd be really interested to know.
We did, I think, initially have a date of 31/3/2013 so it's gone back massively.  Shocked

re Cross Hills Cab 14: I checked and this cabinet
http://tinyurl.com/moq63r2

has a faded  number 14 painted on it , very badly and only just visible .But next to it is a new half size DSLAM cab that is humming away  gently.
Any chance AndyH can predict when orders can be placed?
Thanks.

Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

For those who want to identify what sort of fibre cabinet they are connected to, ECI or Huawei, (once you can identify which cabinet you are on & view it), I have found this interesting site complete with pictures & cabinet dimensions.

There are no estimated dates I can see - which is normal for BDUK funded cabinets. It's part of BDUK NYNET Phase 2 though, so it should be completed by the end of next year. Cab 12 (part of BT's programme) is due to be completed by Sep 2015. The cabinets are due to be Huawei also (most of the Cross Hills cabs are ECI).

Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

Well AndyH thankyou for your information . I must say that is interesting news, 18 months from installation & switching it on till the cab  becomes available!
I live in a rural  spot a mile from this cab, and most of the village are already served by two other fibre cabs that were installed about 12 months ago . They apparently had FTTC almost immediately . However  I met someone recently who  claims to be on a fibre to the cabinet service already and his home is roughly  half way between mine and the new DSLAM cab. I suppose he could have been linked to one of the other Green cabs in the village  .
BT enginners were last working on cab 14 on Tuesday afternoon and it is still humming away to itself so presumably it works! Is there a strategic or a technical reason why they may take 18 months to begin to connect customers? ....- and I'd be interested to be a gunnea pig if there were any chance of such a situation .

Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

When I say by the end of next year, I mean this is the latest it should be completed under the terms of the BDUK contract. It will be in BT's interest to complete it as soon as possible as they will earn the rental charges for FTTC when it's live.
I've not seen an updated FTTC deployment list for this week, but if your cabinet has power already then it sounds like it's going to go live imminently.

Re: How to find out the Exchange Cabinet number for my area ???

Thankyou AndyH : i'll keep checking the fibre checker web site then .( The cab had lights flashing away on the  gear inside when I last saw engineers on it and has just gained a bright new 230v yellow sticker!  -so it is activated )

OK, thanks very much for that, it will be interesting either way. All seems rather odd as it's the only cabinet left to do on the exchange....  Undecided
