IP Profile 74.1 Mbps

Hi,

I've recently joined Plusnet from EE.  With EE my line has always had an IP profile of 74.1 Mbps.  I live within 100m (ish) of the cabinet and I've always wondered why this isn't higher (although the speed is perfectly adequate).

The modem is synced at 20000/79999 with SNR of 6.7/5.4 and has always been 100% stable.

I was hoping when I moved to Plusnet that my line might be reset, but it seems not.  Are there any buttons which admins can poke to see if the IP Profile can be encouraged to move?

For info I'm using a TP-Link TD-W9970 modem feeding a brace of ASUS AIMesh routers.

Thanks,

Andy

Re: IP Profile 74.1 Mbps

Hi Andy, thanks for your post and welcome to our community forums.

The IP profile should generally be between 90 to 96% of your sync speed (79.9mbps). From what I can see, DLM (dynamic line management) at the cabinet has enabled retransmission in a high state on your line, which is a form of error correction so this will push the IP profile down towards the lower end, in this case 92%.

Unfortunately we can't change any settings on a fibre line apart from request a banding is removed through a "caution counter reset" but all this does is ensure your sync speed's not artificially restricted.

The full profile is "Downstream: 0.128M-80M5dB with Retransmission (High). Upstream: 0.128M-20M with no error protection" and the bits in bold show the banding's spot on.

I think with time as long as your connection remains stable, DLM may gradually reduce the SNRM target down to 3dB and remove retransmission completely along with it which should boost your throughput up a little.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: IP Profile 74.1 Mbps

Thanks Gandalf,

Unfortunately, it's been this way for, at least, over a year so it looks as if that's what I'll have to accept.

Cheers,

Andy
