Re: Intermittent Broadband

Thanks for your post @Dudgers

I'm really sorry to see your connection's dropping.

I've tested your line and the tests aren't showing any issues. If the light on your router stays blue then this suggests the broadband signal to your router isn't dropping and the problem may be a little closer to home.

Are your devices connecting to your router wirelessly or wired into it using an ethernet cable?

Re: Intermittent Broadband

Try rebooting your router and checking all cables are securely connected and have no damage or general wear and tear, Sounds like its a hardware communication issue rather than a connection issue.

Re: Intermittent Broadband

Thanks for getting back to me @Dudgers

I suspect the other routers you've tried may not have been compatible for fibre broadband.

What do the logs show in your router we've sent? You can find the logs by going to your router's settings at http://192.168.1.254, then navigate to the Troubleshooting > Helpdesk tabs. Feel free to copy & paste them here.

Re: Intermittent Broadband

"All day my broadband has been dropping.. Bt homehub light stays blue..."

Please describe in detail what you are doing when you perceive things are not working and the state of the router.

If the router lights are blue, then it is connected to the internet ... but there are a lot of other things which might not be right.  You mention the TG582n - there are specific issues with that router with Win8/8.1/10 (IP address spoofing) and I have no reason to believe that Win11 is not impacted the same.  The issue manifests as web browsers reporting no internet connection when you are in fact connected.  I have seen separate browser tabs concurrently report connected ... and not connected.

Are the devices WiFi connected?

Can you access the router user interface in this condition? http://192.168.1.254

Does this impact BOTH WiFi and wired connected devices at the same time ... or just WiFi devices?

Is there noise on the telephone when this happens?

Is there anything in the router log around the time of the issue?

@Gandalf advises that there is no line fault and no evidence of disconnections, so you are probably looking at a PC issue, a Wi-Fi issue or interference on the line sufficient to interrupt data transmission, but not enough to drop line sync.

Re: Intermittent Broadband

Hiya @Dudgers,

I'm sorry to hear that the issue is still ongoing, even with a new router and I would like to see what is happening to the connection from your side.

Can you drop us over the router logs as @Gandalf has suggested so I can see the drops as it registered on the router itself.

Re: Intermittent Broadband

"interference on the line sufficient to interrupt data transmission, but not enough to drop line sync"

Broadband is not going to work well if the "phone" line is not working properly.

Please perform a quiet line test - dial 17070 select option 2 using a corded phone plugged into the test socket behind the face plate of the master socket. It should be silent. A noisy phone line (or no dial tone) will have a marked adverse impact on the performance of broadband.

If the line is noisy or there is no dial tone, then a PHONE LINE fault needs to be raised with your phone provider. If this is PlusNet, you can report a fault on line using the button below.  From the Q&A list, choose the one which matches the problem, 'open' the 'section' and click the trouble-shooter link.  NB: If you receive a failure message (rather than a log-in prompt) then log-in to the user portal in a different browser tab and attempt to use the trouble-shooter again.
