Internet cutting off regularly is it hub or Openreach

Hi,

Is there a way of finding out if my hub 1 is faulty or if Openreach are switching it off from their end.

Over the last couple of weeks my internet goes down for a minute or so before restoring, it has happened around 8 -10 times, mainly in the morning.

We did have a broadband chap come to inspect the outside footpath to say they are preparing to install fibre in the future, so I don't know if the issue lies with them or my hub is playing up.

@steedie1

What are the lights on your hub doing when it drops?

@steedie1

 This sounds like an Openreach network problem. Report it at https://faults.plus.net.

Re: Internet cutting off regularly is it hub or Openreach

I was hoping there was a way that Plusnet could check my usage and determine if going offline was caused by the hub or an outside source.

The system has been fine up to now.

additionally , do I need to check for a particular light coming on if it is an outside source causing it?

@steedie1

Yes you can wait for a Plusnet staffer to come along and pick this up. They can then check whether there have been any drops that require it to be reported to Openreach. If so they will either do it for you or tell you to report it in the same way that I suggested several hours ago. I was just trying to help you to help yourself to get a fault reported as quickly as possible.

Your response is much appreciated, I did start the process and checked what i could but came up against an answer I couldn't respond to, I cant remember now which one but neither answers fitted.

The system seems stable just that we have this blip known again.

And as I say Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Re: Internet cutting off regularly is it hub or Openreach

Hi @steedie1, thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear you've been having connection issues as if recent. I can see when checking your connection from this side with the amount of drops we're seeing as seen by the graph below, something certainly looks to be out of place somewhere.

When testing from this side looking into signs as to what's behind the drops we're not picking up any errors however we are detected a bridge tap issue being detected which is usually a problem with wiring somewhere that very well could be causing the drops. Bridge tap issues are most commonly caused by something internal to the property and in which case I'd advise trying first of all the steps below which may help narrow down the cause of the bridge tap.

I'd recommend starting with basic checks here: http://goo.gl/p2tpvL

And if that doesn't help the next thing would be to rule your internal wiring out by plugging the connection into your test socket which is under the faceplate of your master socket and seeing if the drops stop. This rules out internal wiring, face plates and extension sockets as being the cause. How to locate the test socket and set your connection into it can be found here:
https://community.plus.net/t5/Library/Testing-From-The-Master-Socket/ba-p/1322242

I'd advise monitoring your connection in this set-up for 24-48 hours if the drops don't look to persist straight aware as to be sure.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Internet cutting off regularly is it hub or Openreach

Thank you for your reply.
Will check through the list, slightly surprised it only happens in the morning but will check connections as suggested over the next couple of days.
Mg thanks to both you and Baldric
