The last unofficial news was they were to launch around now but any number of things could delay this. Until there's an Official Announcement we won't know.
Use the folllowing to confirm FTTP is coming. The first will tell you in due course when it's available to order.

If FTTP becomes available to you before PlusNet lauch then they have been waiving early termination fees if you move to BT or EE (but don't quote me on this).

That didn't happen to me I went to FTTP with BT and PlusNet cut off my internet access but left me the phoneline two weeks before the move! Then I had a terrible time trying to get any internet connection .

OpenReach have now basically moved from "Ultra fast coming soon" for our street to "No we've no plans at all to move any of you off FTTC with copper runs of neatly 1Km"
So I'm basically stuck with 44 down for the foreseeable future or moving to Youfibre (who are getting closer and closer) who will do a full fibre install to my house.

@SteveA that's very disappointing for you, hope it's not too long.

So, the rumoured new PlusNet router is either out or is about to be released.

I think it's reasonable to stick to the old assumption that, if it's supplied free it's gonna be pretty useless. That goes for most ISPs. Not just Plusnet.

Isn't this the same specification and the £200 BT Smart Hub2? https://shop.bt.com/products/bt-smart-hub-2-097683-DYNK.html
I'm running the BT Smart Hub2 with BT FTTP and it's OK.

Yes the same spec. It'll probably work fine for you as long as you're hard wired to one of the ethernet ports. Problem is though, it kinda defeats the purpose supplying this router with the likes of the BT 900 FTTP package because it doesn't support 802.11ax (wifi 6). Much better to ditch it it in favour of a snazzy new mesh system. That's my opinion anyway.

@brianbelfast funny you should mention Wi-Fi 6 as I've just (last week) upgraded my PC and added Wi-Fi 6E and was gobsmacked when it's as fast (150mb down / 30mb up) on WiFi as on the ethernet cable.

That's good to hear. Yes a big improvement. Friends of mine have the BT 900 package, with that smarthub thing, and they might as well not have bothered. The fastest they are getting on any of their wifi devices is 400-450, and barely half the house has wifi coverage. When I mention mesh they look at me like I'm mad.

The mesh one gives me more trouble than all the others put together so I’d always go wired APs rather than mesh if you can.

Yes of-course. To each their own. It's good that you've found a setup that works well for you. Multiple hard-wired APs do a really good job when carefully configured. The difficulty is that devices tend to connect to whichever AP that "replies" fastest. Which might not necessarily be the one with the best signal strength. Mesh does a better job of making sure you're always on the node with the best signal and throughput.
