@jgb in a nutshell, yes! At the moment, the altnet FTTP suppliers use different ONT's to the Openreach one(s). Whether each altnet use different ones I know not but I suspect its likely.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.
