Lost about 1-2MB/s on downloads for the past few months

For whatever reason my new max has been 4.5MB/s down, where it used to peak at around 6.0. I've submitted a line fault just for the hell of it as it was fine before (as well as Vodafone before we switched).

This is over wifi and the distance to the hub is below us, sadly I can't run cables up the stairs and accross the landing (would look ugly ).

Wifi has been fine, so hopefully someone can help me out here? Thanks.

I'm a bit confused though, I'm able to see your email address linked up with your forum account, but it's leading me to an account on Unlimited fibre Extra, with the line syncing at 40Mbps.

Have I got the right account here? Please can you send me a PM with the account username?

Has the OP been put on to the 40/10 service by mistake?

Nope, the account is correctly on Unlimited Fibre Extra, and the line is syncing at 38.2 Mbps, and has been for some time. So I was a bit confused when the OP said  it was previously peaking at 6Mbps.

The OP is currently getting 4.5MBps, that's 36Mbps. That sounds compatible with a sync speed of 38.2Mbps to me.

Hence my suggestion that the OP might have been moved from Fibre Extra to Fibre.

On fibre Extra 6MBps (Bytes from the original post, not bits) is the same as 48Mbps.

I've just had another look into the account @tankabbott, speeds look  pretty normal to me? when you initiated your Fire Extra contract you were advised to expect speeds between 31 - 46Mbps.

KBD and RRT line tests are also finding no problems on the line.
