New Customer & Openreach appointment

Signed up last week with Plusnet for Full Fibre. Currently have BT copper wire broadband. Given provisional appointment for Openreach engineer of 18th March.

Late last night (Sunday) I was sent a text to say this had been delayed, but no reason given. Logged in to Plusnet site today expecting to see some kind of update or explanation. Nothing. Rang up the connections team just now and was told that an OR engineer had visited today and decided the installation was complex. As far as I can see, from security camera footage, NO ONE has visited today, and given that the text was sent late yesterday, it just doesn't add up. It doesn't seem like a complex installation to me - the pole is visible from my window and lots neighbours have had fibre installed recently, so I don't know why our setup would be any more complicated.

Do OR make this stuff up to delay things?Huh

God knows, @harrywillis - was said engineer looking in the right place? If your security camera footage doesn't show anyone in the area, it sounds 'strange' to say the least!

Re: New Customer & Openreach appointment

Exactly. It seems odd that I received the text last night yet Plusnet say OR were out today.

Out of interest what does the text at the bottom of this site say? https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Re: New Customer & Openreach appointment

There's a lot of info on there, but it does have a line saying :

"Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed with no anticipated issues."

That's the bit I was looking for - so they have already surveyed you location and can't see an issue. I think someone is playing silly lumps of grass (to avoid the swear filter).

Yes. It's like they are stalling for some reason

And unfortunately, you'll never find out why - OpenReach sometimes appears to be the old 'GPO Telephones' - a law unto themselves, accountable to no-one.

@harrywillis

If there's an Open ticket on your PlusNet portal under My Orders you could ask about the OR visit - stating your security camera footage shows no sign of said visit.

its unusual for OR to do a survey in those circumstances. is your install type shown as '1 stage' ?

Maybe a previous neighbour install reported an issue at the pole which would affect subsequent installs ?

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: New Customer & Openreach appointment

That thought had crossed my mind, @MisterW  -  I could be wrong, but has a surveyor put a wrong address on his report?

Edit to cover your edit - possible.

@jab1  @MisterW

Is the detail provided on the Checker report not provided by the Network install team who simply do a visual survey for overhead and check underground ducts when installing a draw rope for the fibre. If they spot anything they don't like they'll mark it for further survey.

Re: New Customer & Openreach appointment

I think so, @bmc , but in this case it is marked as 'no anticipated problems'.

No idea where to find this out - it doesn't seem to be on the https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/telephoneHome website?

Re: New Customer & Openreach appointment

Yes - in the narrative at the bottom, I think - but check the full page, as I could be wrong.
