I recently switched from TalkTalk to Plusnet. A few years ago I upgraded from TalkTalk's 36Mb (I got circa 32.5Mb) service to the 66Mb service and received an improvement in speed to around 45Mb if I remember correctly. After about a year I downgraded again (to save a bit of money). More recently I upgraded again on TalkTalk to 66Mb but this time saw no speed increase whatsoever (still 32.5Mb) after some hassle I reverted back to the slower package. As mentioned I have now moved to Plusnet on the Unlimited Fibre Extra package. The speed is still 32.5Mb - surely I should see some improvement? Otherwise I may as well be on the lesser package. I spoke to the Openreach engineer today that came to fix a home phone fault, he said my line was fine and I probably needed it reset. Can this be done?
Fixed! Go to the fix.

@BO55 No doubt one of the Help Team will get to this, but it would be interesting to see the results of: BT Broadband (obscuring your phone number), BTW Performance Tester , and the Help Desk page of your Hub - if you are using the supplied PN Hub.

@BO55 With such a low max available speed, I would go for the cheaper package. The other two screenshots would still be useful, though.

Thanks for that info, @BO55 If you are only 480m from the cab, those speeds are atrocious. Sorry to be a pain, but can you post the 'Advanced Diagnostics' from the BTW speed test page - it would give more information. Also- looking at the details you have provided, it looks suspiciously like you are provisioned on 'Fibre' and NOT 'Fibre Extra'.

Excuse me butting in @jab1
@BO55 The 66Mb package you refer to is the average speed customer can get expect with Unlimited Fibre Extra, not the actual expected speed, for Unlimited Fibre the average speed will be 36Mb.
Also I note you have a static IP Address for your profile, maybe your broadband connection has not been provisioned correctly.

No problem, @Dan_the_Van - but with the BTw checker only offering 55mb/s as a max to the OP, I see no benefit in paying for the higher package. Good spot re: the static IP - I can never remember the best way to spot that.

@jab1 totally agree no need paying for something you'll never achieve.
There are many address ranges for static IP, I used to have a list (can't find it) but I know 80.229.0.0/16 is on of them, mine is in that range!

With a synch speed of 35Mb the download of 32Mb is about right. The question is why is the synch only 35Mb ?
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@Dan_the_Van Thanks, I don't expect 66Mb but I thought I would get more than the 32Mb I was getting on the 36Mb service. Yes I do have a static IP

@BO55 This needs Help Team intervention - either you are on the 40/10 package, or your static IP has confused the system.
