ONT IP address

I’ve a ticket in with Plusnet as my TPlink deco is not getting a WAN IP. I’ve no spare router(I never took the free one, Plusnet are now sending one in the post though), if I plug a laptop into the ONT should it get an IP address? It’s not.
Thanks 😄

Re: ONT IP address

@joe90bass welcome to the forum.

I suspect you are using Dynamic IP for the WAN IP Address which is incorrect you need to configure the WAN to use PPPoE adding your broadband username and password in the appropriate fields.

Re: ONT IP address

In trying to keep the post brief I omitted this was a working setup using pppoe that just stopped working. I’ve reset the deco and swapped with another.

Re: ONT IP address

So to be clear, this was a previously working Plusnet connection with the Deco router ?

What's the status of the led's on the ONT ?

Is there any information in a log on the Deco ?

Re: ONT IP address

Thanks for the help.
3 Green LEDs on the ONT. I’m out for the day now but will try and decipher the logs later and setup a pppoe connection on the laptop. My main query was just if it a laptop direct to the ONT would get an IP. I’ll try setting up a pppoe connection later and test.
Thanks again

Re: ONT IP address

@joe90bass  As far as I'm aware it's pretty much a brick, It doesn't have a DHCP server and no web GUI just like the old FTTC modems and you setup a PPPOE connection in the same way and your computer does the job of the router.

Re: ONT IP address

Thanks James, I was expecting that a laptop direct into the ONT would get an IP from Plusnet in the same way a router would. I’ve tried setting up a pppoe connection on a laptop direct into the ONT and am getting an error 651.

Re: ONT IP address

That process has to allocate an IP address … or there’s no means of routing traffic.

Re: ONT IP address

This is the settings in the Dec XE75, these worked until Thursday lunchtime. The IP address did show an IP previously

What does the log on the Deco say ?

Re: ONT IP address

Lots of ntp check errors
Daemon.err pppd[18921] unable to complete pppoe discovery
It’s hard to pick out relevant stuff, there’s Lots of noise for internal dhcp, 802.11k,etc and the other Decos which are currently off in the logs.

@joe90bass

I would suggest you apply a filter to the log and only look at PPP or save to your local PC and attach it to a post here, some folk here might be able to see what's going on

Re: ONT IP address

Thans Dan. It's not allowing me to upload a pdf, hopefully this link to the log in my one drive works. Link to log
To recap- Our fibre connection went down Thursday daytime, my wife was working from home at the time. No changes were made by us to anything. Looking at the Deco app on my phone shows no IP address for the WAN connection. The three LEDs on the ONT are all green. Following a call with Plusnet I've factory reset the Deco, this has had the same result. I’ve also used a different deco, still no joy. Following a suggestion from TP-Link support and further info on here, I've attached a laptop direct to the ONT and created a PPOE connection, still no IP address. Plusnet are convinced it's the Deco at fault, I have no other router here as I use my own kit I never took up the free router offer, they are sending me one now though.
The attached log is from today following a factory reset, the date hasn't updated.
