Router

Hi

I have ordered full fibre and was wondering the following.
I have a Netgear nighthawk ac1900 can I continue to use this over the supplied Plusnet modem?

Re: Router

@patters78 I assume the Netgear is the R7000 ? and you currently have it connected via an Openreach modem, yes ?

On Full Fibre , Openreach will install an ONT ( Optical network termination ) which replaces the modem.

Your router will connect directly to the ONT ( just like it connected to the modem ) and require no reconfiguration.

However , if you have ordered the 900Mb product , you may want to review this https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Wi-Fi-5-AC-Routers/Netgear-R7000-WAN-Throughput/td-p/4621... as it suggests that the R7000 MAY not be capable of >600Mb throughput ( WAN -> LAN )

You should also ensure that any QoS is disabled as that can seriously reduce throughput.

Also make sure that any ethernet cables used are Cat5e or better as lower spec ones may be limited to 100Mb

Re: Router

Sorry forgot there were different versions of the ac1900.
I have the D7000v2 and connects directly to the wall

Re: Router

From the manual it looks like LAN  port 4 can be used as a WAN port on the D7000, so you will need to connect that via an Ethernet cable to the ONT. The router may possibly need some reconfiguration to use the WAN port.

Have a look at the manual , page 26
