Same download speed after upgrade

Was on FTTP 300 and getting full 300Mb download and 45Mb upload. I measured this from connecting directly to the hub2 using CAT6 cable. I upgraded to FTTP 500 yesterday and received an email to say my order was complete. Carried out the speed test in the same way and my download is 270Mb (decreased) but the upload is 70Mb.

The upload has increased in line with what I was expecting but why would my download drop to a slower speed than when I was on FTTP 300?

Speedtest carried out using the hub2 speedtest (BT Wholesale) as well as Ookla which gave same results.

I was doing a bit of reading and it seems a lot depends on the speed test provider. I found using Fast.com for my speedtest resulted in nearer 500Mb. So, I'm happy but will take the speed test with a pinch of salt.
