Serious speed issues.

Since upgrading from Full Fibre 500 to Full Fibre 900, my speeds have decreased. My latest test over wifi came in at 50mbps. The speed has dropped since I upgraded, nothing has changed with the hardware in my home.

What about a ethernet connected test?

Re: Serious speed issues.

That doesn't look good. As Full Fibre is slightly out of my experience, maybe @MisterW can take over - I would hate to give wrong advice.

Re: Serious speed issues.

Sorry to hear this @nathannchan nothing is flagging from our side, however we can't see the speed on our side. What checks have you done? Just so that we have the full picture.

Re: Serious speed issues.

Hi Will,

I've tested over WiFi and also ethernet. I'm still not getting anywhere near the guaranteed minimum 500mbs

@nathannchan - are you posting here whilst connected to your Plusnet line?

Re: Serious speed issues.

When I first replied, the last IP address you posted from was owned by ZScaler (not Plusnet).

This latest reply is from an O2 IP.

Could you perhaps be speed testing from a corporate laptop that has some sort of proxy/VPN service installed? If so, your speeds could well be limited to whatever the VPN/proxy tunnel can support.

Re: Serious speed issues.

I created the thread via my corporate laptop however the tests have been done on my private devices.

Re: Serious speed issues.

fwiw, you haven't said what router 'hardware' you use and although it is unlikely to be the cause, could you perhaps use another router such as a Plusnet Hub 2 ?

Alternatively, connect an ethernet wired Windows PC direct to the Openreach modem and run a speed test?

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/921/

If you enable ping on your router, you could also set up a BQM to detect any packet loss.

Other thought is whether you have enabled QoS with incorrect settings on your own router?

Re: Serious speed issues.

I have the hub 2 router, this is the second thread I’ve had to start as support gave up helping me 2 weeks ago. I upgraded from 500 to 900 and my connection has been worse. No one is seeming to find a way to help me at all. I have ran a speed test via Ethernet and still getting no where near the guaranteed 500mbs on a 900mbs contract

Re: Serious speed issues.

I’m logged into the admin settings, is there anything I could change to try and improve the speed? Something has to be wrong if I’m not getting the minimum guaranteed speeds

Re: Serious speed issues.

There are no settings you can change on hub 2 that would affect ethernet speed tests.

There was a recent firmware update for the hub 2.

I can only suggest you wire an ethernet PC direct to the openreach modem to run a speed test, to rule out the possibility the hub 2 is defective.  Also to set up BQM to check for packet loss (remember to turn on Ping on hub 2) after a few hours use.

Can you provide an 'image' from the speedtest.net result. Run the test several times to get consistent results and try a selecting a different server.

Re: Serious speed issues.

fyi, update from @nathannchan who sent me this image via PM of a speed test over 'wifi' via Hub 2.

Upload speed looks fine to me.

0plus.jpg

Speed test to be checked using an ethernet wired computer, because Wifi-5 (802.11ac) enabled Hub Two won't ever reach 900 mbps over wifi-5.  (2x2 Wifi-5 may max out 460-480mbps)
