Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Hi all,

I had to make a new account to post, basically I am with Plusnet and I have been getting very slow upload speeds of a max of 2 mb/s, download is speed is strangely fine but upload speed is not.

I have come across a few posts with similar issues on this forum, is something going on?

Just to reiterate the steps I have taken, I have tested on both wired and WIFI connection and the results are the same, I often upload files and download music and it's taking ages to do this.

I have been using https://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk to test the speeds which has never showed above 2mb/s the last 2-3 days. I have tried resetting the router normally, factory resetting the router and going into advanced options inside the plusnet router options and changed channels as advised by someone I spoke to on the plusnet team but this hasn't resolved the issue. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

@alex1992 Difficult to advise based on the information given. For other Community members to advise, could you please post screen shots of the following, please: - BT Broadband (obscuring your phone number), BTW Performance Tester - the Advanced Diagnostics) and the Help Desk page from your router (obscuring any personal details).

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Hi John,

Thanks for your response, please see relevant screenshots/attachments as advised.

Hopefully you can see some of the info and I haven't missed out or left in any personal info in there. Weirdly enough any of the advanced/diagnostics couldn't find any issue with the upload speed but my devices all seem to be struggling with uploading/downloading from the internet. Music files for example are taking a long time to download and updates also taking a long time.

Let me know if you need any other information or if I have missed anything. The BT speed tests seem to indicate everything is okay but I know there is an issue as I am still struggling and getting low upload speed results on broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk.

Thanks.

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Thanks for the details, Alex. Taking the shots in order:-

The Basic Speed Test looks low on Download, but OK on Upload.

I'm not convinced the 'Broadband Speed Checker' is accurate, going on the other reports.

The BTW Performance report (dated 11/10) looks healthy.

The BTW Speed Test report (PDF) mirrors the Basic Speed Test'

Your Help Desk indicates you  have had a recent re-sync, which could indicate a network problem - and also be part of the reason for your poor upload performance.

Could you post the WAN tab of your Event Log, please?

Hi John,

Thanks for coming back, ah maybe there was a re-sync I have been trying to fix the issues today so unfortunately this may not be much help but please see the event log filtered by the WAN category below. I did a full couple of resets today with the router to see if it would make a difference so some of the messages below may be caused by that.

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Thanks for that, Alex, and the explanation. It isn't an obvious network problem, and to be truthful, I'm inclined to think your choice of speed tester is possibly not the best - sorry.

I'm logging off for the night now, but is it possible to run these two test sites: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test  and thinkbroadband :: UK Broadband Speed Test  and post the results?

Hopefully, one of the PN Help Team will pick this up in the morning, and if they are feeling generous, post a GEA test and a RADIUS log.

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Thanks John.

Yes I'm still a bit confused too admittedly as I am getting vastly different upload speeds between different speed test websites so unsure which one is accurate. The two you have linked seem fine on the tests I have run (screenshots attached). I've also attached my task manager ethernet speeds and another website reporting the same upload speed as broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk so not sure which is accurate now...

Sorry if I am being a pain, just seems odd is all. I think a GEA test/Radius log would be most helpful so we shall see what one of the Plusnet team can come back with.

Thanks for your help tonight and good night!

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

@alex1992 One thing I forgot to ask last night - Is your phone line silent?  Dial 17070, option 2 from a (preferably corded) phone. After the confirmation of your phone number, the line should be silent, apart from the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message. If there is any noise other than that, report a PHONE fault first.

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Hello @alex1992

Thanks a lot for reaching out and I'm really sorry to hear about the problems that you're having with your line speeds. I can see that you've contacted our Technical Support Team yesterday who have arranged a Qube Engineer visit next week.

Testing the line hasn't picked up on any speed issues, which appear to have remained constant at 40Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. I'll pop a KBD test onto this post that'll have additional data on there, but an RRT - which shows historical data does show that your speeds have remained constant since 19/09/2021.

Let's see what the engineer notes say on Tuesday and let us know if your service has not improved afterwards.

@adam945 Noticed the 'Bridge Tap - Detected' comment? Would it have any significance?

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

Hi John,

Thanks yeah I just done that now and there’s no issues, no noise or otherwise interference when hitting option 2 other than the usual ‘quiet line test’ from my home phone.

Thanks for the GEA test also, strange how it found no issues. I’ll try and run some more tests later and come back with any other information I can dig out. Cheers!

Re: Slow upload speeds for the last 2 days (less than 2 mb/s)

The GEA Test/Radius were @adam945 's doing not mine - I'm only a Community member. The GEA did mention something 'not quite right' - the 'Bridge Tap' which I pointed out to Adam.
