He'd basically packed up, knocked on the door, while on the phone asking about his next job, said what he had to do was complete and left.

I thought as much. Waiting on BT Wholesale I guess then like @MisterW suggested

I've power cycled the ONT and it's now all up and running 310/48 😁

Not quite sure I understand why an ONT power cycle had any effect. Coincidence perhaps ?

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Possibly, what are the chances though.... as soon as it was back on, the Fritzbox connected.

Agreed, not very high!. I suppose the ONT reset could have 'kicked' something in the BTw system.  I really don't have a detailed knowledge of how the ONT interacts with the Openreach/BTw system, other than it has a serial no which registers it to the connection.
