Re: Successful FTTP install

@bmc

Yup that's correct, you can just see the cable coming out of the cover and through the wall on the right in the photo.From there it goes across my porch, through my garage, then around the corner of the house and into my office on the first floor. And a very tidy job he made of it fair play..

Re: Successful FTTP install

@alungd - was the grey pipe existing on your property before the fttp install? I was querying how to get the fibre to exit my existing master socket, fed by a wholly underground duct. Not sure I want OR to have to start digging up steps at the front of my house to break into a duct just to make a splice when the duct ends at the master socket only 3' inside the front door.  Was hoping they might be able to feed the external cable far enough through the duct & master socket outlet to be able to splice in my hall, and feed the splice back into the duct a short distance (6" or so).

Re: Successful FTTP install

Yes the ducting was put in when the houses were being built, all the houses on our estate are fed that way.

I admit I’m not the most knowledgeable about this but I was under the impression the CSP had to be on an outside wall. A lot of the time they do the install in two steps and the cable is brought to the CSP ahead of the install date in preparation. They can do this first step with no one at home.

Are you saying you have underground ducting all the way into the property and terminating where your master socket is? If so then I guess it’s possible he may be able to pull the cable all the way through but sounds like it could be tricky. The CSP is not a small box either not sure I’d want that on an inside wall..

Yes, we have nothing external on the house at all, our duct finishes a couple of inches below the master socket, albeit buried in the wall, but visible if you remove the faceplate. Might just be a Northern Ireland thing!

Re: Successful FTTP install

Oh I see, well if you can physically see it with the faceplate off you never know he may be able to do it. As long as your happy to have that CSP inside and of course that’s allowed. Fingers crossed!

The one thing I found was the OR engineer was very helpful and had no issues going out of his way to find a solution I was happy with. Hopefully you have a similar experience 😁

@jpwilliams_com  You may not know that Openreach have an internal CSP which they may be able to use in your installation, whether they use these in all areas of the UK I wouldn't know. It is much smaller than the external unit and white plastic instead of grey.

Have look at page 9 of this document to get an idea of the size difference.
