Re: TP Link Archer VR900 ppp1 LCP down Disconnection

The issues you have with the VDSL modem in the TD-W9970 might be different from mine since they use different chipsets & will require different firmware, you should contact TP-Link support onlinesupport.uk@tp-link.com
I've sent them my log files showing PPP disconections however TP-Link are telling me to keep the VR900 router and not return it to the retailer Box.co.uk to allow them to do further troubleshooting on the unit should they require any more information.
Problem is looking at Box returns policy http://www.box.co.uk/returns-overview they only give a DOA return period of 30 Days starting from the Invoice Date 11/11/2015 so after that point i don't think ill be able to get a refund? im sure retailers should cover it for its period of warranty? (theres also an additional charge of £20 if their technician finds no fault). I think the warranty for this router is 3 years http://uk.tp-link.com/support/rma/. They also won't refund me the postage cost of returning the last two routers because they emailed me a collect+ postage label which i can't print out since i have no printer, yet on their website they state > Returns using your own method of delivery "If you elect to return the defective product to us using your own method of delivery, we will refund up to £3.50 of the costs incurred by you. This will only be refunded upon the receipt of proof of the carriage costs."
So im not quite happy with this company trying to dodge costs to them, £130 could go to another router that actually works

Re: TP Link Archer VR900 ppp1 LCP down Disconnection

I am having slightly more luck with my VR900. I have had 3 disconnections/dropouts in 10 days and there was no trouble resynching again. At least one of these disconnects was due to work being done at my local exchange

To update on this problem, i have been given a beta firmware Archer_VR900v1_0.9.1_1.3_up_boot(151218) to test that so far seems to be stable, no disconnects in 4 days so far & no Errors(pkts), if you are having the same issue with the VR900 (dont use it if you have another model) then you can download it here http://www.filedropper.com/archervr900v109113upboot1512182015-12-18152804
It will be helpful to give your feedback back to TP-Link contact onlinesupport.uk@tp-link.com to confirm if it resolves your issues

Hey,
Any development since?
Also the link that you've provided doesn't work anymore. Any chance you post it somewhere else or email it to me?

Re: TP Link Archer VR900 ppp1 LCP down Disconnection

@sobol got your email, i sent the firmware to you via We Transfer, note that it is only for those with a TP Link VR900.
I wouldn't get you hopes up on it fixing the issue although it might help. I have not heard anything further back from tech support, im hoping they might update me with a firmware to fix the modem sync issues but im not holding out for long. I'll be returning my router back to Box.co.uk this week for a refund & look for something else more stable

Re: TP Link Archer VR900 ppp1 LCP down Disconnection

Hey,
I didn't get the email, can you resend it ? I'll be raising issue with TPLINK Today as well. I've bought mine from Amazon and it's exactly same issue, happening few times a day and I'm thinking of returning it.
I have not noticed any disconnections with my hacked Huawei HG612, however it's a grim idea going back to it as cabling/managing modem+router combo isn't something I want to do.
Also I have to say that TP-Link is syncing at around 62mbit/s vs HG612 58mbit/s.

@sobol resent via email
Not heard from TP Link support since 5th Jan, i doubt they still have any idea what the issue is. The tests they had me running were not only an inconvenience to keep running 24hrs a day via ethernet cable, such as wireshark & then a separate debug tool to monitor the network connection but also didn't work & revealed nothing, more hassle than what its worth.

Yes I did thanks but I didn't mention it because I didn't know how long that promotion would last. The lightning deal has now ended.

Hey, thank you so much for the firmware. I have been on it for last two days and no disconnections. Even if I get one in four days like you did that's stable enough for me.
I have noticed that when I had official tp-link firmware the dl sync speed was around 62mbps, whilst now it's 59mbps. The HG612 I've used had sync speed same to testing firmware.
So what I think TP-LINK did is increase SNR to achieve better speeds at the cost of stability. I think they should have given use choice of SNR setting.
Overall I'm happy now with the Amazon deal at £90 and testing firmware so I'll keep the router.

The range & speed were disappointingly not as good as with my trusty Asus RT-AC56U so the AC900 is on it's way back to Amazon. Smiley

Re: TP Link Archer VR900 ppp1 LCP down Disconnection

I have just noticed that TP Link have now released a firmware that apparently fixes the compatibility issue with Plusnet http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/Archer-VR900_V1.html#Firmware

Can somebody confirm who has been having the same modem dropout issues as me if that fixed it?

I returned my router back in January having run out of time under the 28 day warranty & having received no further communication from TP Link support. It also lists a V2 under the firmware which may indicate that they will be releasing a new revision of it.

Update: I see they have released two new combined VDSL2 modem routers that look pretty tempting if free of the modem issues facing the VR900 that uses an older Broadcom BCM63168 chipset
