Hello, Our phone lines are 1960's aluminum, 8meg download is the best we have had in 20 years. Now the sales guys tell me we have fiber here. Nice if that's true, but I have my doubts, as I checked with Openreach and there was no work on upgrading around here until four or five years.
How can I check?
Fixed! Go to the fix.

@i12 Welcome to the forum.
It all depends on how you define 'fibre' Plusnet only provide FTTC, which will still use your ali cable from the street cabinet. I suspect that you have been looking at FTTP, which brings the fiber all the way to your premises.
To see what's available put your phone number in here. VDSL is the same ad FTTC. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Thank you for you quick reply.
Unfortunately it didn't help as at the moment I'm with Virgin cable.
There is a dial tone, which is odd as it was totally dead a year ago.
Who knows, they may have done something to the cables after all

I assume the Adress version supplied the information as to what's available. Note that pure fibre, FTTP is shown as WBC FTTP in the left hand column.
If it's DVSL (FTTC) then you'll have been given a range of speeds depending on the distance to the cabinet and the line condition. You should remember that if, for example, if it showed 60 - 50 down for a good line you might only get 30 * 25 from the PlusNet 40/10 service.
I believe if you start the order process (but don't complete it) PlusNet should give an actual estimate for your service.

I have gone ahead and ordered 36mb, but when I gave my details it changed to max 40mb. This should be more than enough for my use.
Thank you for the info I appreciate it.
