Re: Turning off firewall on router.

You can buy a 5 metre or 10 metre Cat5e or Cat6 cable at any good PC shop.

There will be no issues with that length.

Re: Turning off firewall on router.

Reminds me of the Saturday matinees at the cinema that was at the end of the street where I used to live.

The simple world where you cheered the cowboys in white hats and booed the baddies in the black ones. I bet they wouldn't be allowed to do that today.

Re: Turning off firewall on router.

So are we going to conclude that I was right in my assumption that Wi-Fi is terrible and a nice RJ45 cable from router to PC/Laptop is the best option?

Or is this issue still unresolved?

Re: Turning off firewall on router.

I will concede that a wired connection is always going to be more reliable than a wireless one, but mobile phones, tablets, some netbooks, Chromebooks &c do not have the option - and speaking personally, I'm not drilling holes through my walls for an option that I don't need.

Well, that's great John, but does the solution still help the complainant?

Re: Turning off firewall on router.

For context, the image is from the Coen Brothers film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

One of their better films in recent years and Mr Scruggs is just part of the story.

Buster Scruggs, a cheerful singing cowboy, arrives at an isolated cantina full of outlaws where he exchanges insults with another patron before effortlessly shooting everyone as they reach for their guns.

If the original poster can use a wired connection - safely - then it may, possibly. Although, it may not - depends where the actual problem lies, and as they haven't been back for a while, who knows what has or hasn't transpired?

Many do not return when their issue is resolved, much to the chagrin of the glory hunter.

@billnotben

Oh you could, but just so long as 50% of the hats were black even though only 10% were actually baddies.

Diversity, innit.
