Upgrade to 900mb+

Hello all,

I recently got FF Plusnet after waiting SEVEN months for install. Very happy with speed around 500mb. Noticed an offer to upgrade to 900mb so decided to do that as it was only £3 more a month. I'm a video editor so any extra speed dealing with huge file downloads and uploads is appreciated.

However now I am only getting speeds around 300/350mb (see attached). Even after turning router and devices on and off again. Yes, its been a month since the upgrade so plenty of time at Plusnets end. I called and was told there is no fault with line and WiFi will always give variable results... They suggested I use an ethernet cable in my MacBook Pro lol.

Any thoughts from Plusnet moderators here? I just feel Ive spent an additional £3 a month for nothing 🤔

Re: Upgrade to 900mb+

Are you using the Plusnet supplied router? If so, you're unlikely to get much beyond ~450mbps from an optimal 5GHz Wi-Fi connection (the upload will probably be a bit more forgiving though).

There's nothing I can think of that would explain any variance in Wi-Fi speed following upgrade.

Yes, its been a month since the upgrade so plenty of time at Plusnets end.

First, there is no training period on FTTP like there was on FTTC. FTTP goes at the provisioned speed instantly.

so I called and was told there is no fault with line and WiFi will always give variable results... They suggested I use an ethernet cable in my MacBook Pro lol.

Wifi will max out around 400Mb unless both the client and router are WIFI 6 capable ( the Plusnet Hub 2 is only Wifi 5 )

On my 900Mb connection, my setup ( Wifi 5 ) maxes out at about 350Mb wireless on my (fairly new) laptop whereas wired it gives 900Mb down 110Mb up.

You really do need to try a wired test to confirm that there isnt a basic problem with the provision . We've seen a couple of instances recently where upgrades somehow got provisioned incorrectly by Openreach.

Yep, that confirms nothing wrong with the basic connection speed.

Does your Macbook Pro support Wifi 6 ? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/deployment/dep2ac3e3b51/web

If it doesnt, then you're wasting your time
