Re: Upload speed

It's good to see FINALLY that you got the speeds you signed up for !  Cool

Why is it a C though?

Because you are using a Hub-2 which is poor at managing latency (the Hub-1 was better !)  Cry

If you want to achieve an "A" or "A+",  and not suffer lag spikes, then you will need a different router that supports QoS, CoDel, Cake, or SQM , to perform traffic management on upload and download to tune out any bufferbloat.

For online gaming a "B" rating (latency < 60ms) is probably about as bad as you'd want it. ("C" is latency < 200ms !) Shocked

Re: Upload speed

Ah, I see. The only worry I have is I did the BT Wholesale test to see what my speed was set to and it said upload 45mbps, so I'm thinking was this that thing Matthew did to increase it then decrease again to see if it fixes it? Before the BT test said I was getting 30upload when I was getting the 20...

Oh I see. My Mum has the eero mesh 6, but her WiFi supports WiFi 6...

Re: Upload speed

There is a body of evidence which suggests that at FTTP speeds QoS is detrimental to optimal through put.

I'd be interested to see the bufferbloat grade of that, as I've never known anyone to have that before -

Re: Upload speed

I'll try to get a test when I next visit. She gets unlimited 400down and 40up for £20 a month.

Unfortunately, her provider isn't in my area otherwise I would have been all over that.

Re: Upload speed

Oh yes, I was just having a little complain about Mum's network being better than mine haha 😅

I will definitely consider the eero. I'm just happy I'm getting my 30upload finally.

Re: Upload speed

It will be interesting to see if her eero works better than this - Amazon Eero Pro 6 and Gigabit SQM

For what it's worth, this is my FTTC connection today, using a pfSense router -

Some say that using broadband without QoS is like the Stig driving a car with the handbrake not fully released !  Cheesy

Would I need to get more than one eero?

Re: Upload speed

The Amazon product pages give the WiFi coverage area for each model.

It will depend where you put the unit, what your house is made of, what you neighbour's WiFi is like, etc...

It's probably worth borrowing you Mum's, trying it connected to your ONT, then wandering around and checking the WiFi signal.
