I see the IP address is US registered - looking through the registration info I see the Ip is registered to BT Americas Inc.
My UK based VOIP provider, by default blocks all non UK traffic.
Why would Plusnet do this.

All PlusNet IP ranges are registered in the UK. There are some ranges that WERE owned by BT Americas some years ago but these have been correctly re-registered in the UK. However, some Geolocation providers are very lax at updating their databases.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Thanks for your reply.
I have been with plusnet for years, and my traffic has always gone via the US.
I have complained previously about this, buit nothing was ever done.
So is my VOIP provider (Gradwell) and my server probe (https://ip-lookup.net/index.php) being given incorrect geolocation information.
Internic (not a trusted source ?) give the details as:
Registrant:
- Handle: BA-346
- Name: BT Americas, Inc
- Whois Server: whois.arin.net
- Kind: org
- Mailing Address: 910 Hastings Ave. Suite 120, Newport, MN, 55055, United States
So I am confused, is traffic going via the USA or not ?
How do you get this corrected if it is.

As advised BT bought some IP addresees originally regsitered with ARIN and Plusnet use some of these.
Just because the registrant is in the USA does not indicate your traffic is routed via the USA.
Plusnets network equipment is in the UK.
Looks like Gradwell need to update their Geo blocking database.
What does https://www.whoismyisp.org/ report?
What are the first two octets of the IP address?
Regards
Richard

https://www.whoismyisp.org/ reports LONDON as the location !
OK thanks very much for that.
I will go back to Gradwell and ask them why they are mis locating my IP.

OK So my VOIP provider Gradwell have been questioned, and are still saying the IP address is a US IP.
They quote a Plusnet community thread already running on this issue, but its 49 pages long !
https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Feedback/IP-addresses-not-UK-Can-customers-please-report-any-p...
Should I post this issue on that thread instead ?
So I am still stuck, as its a right pain when making calls sometimes, as Gradwell block non UK IP's. You can unblock them, but it takes 15 minutes for their servers to update ...
When performing a whois on the IP address this shows the location the following is returned
P Location United Kingdom United Kingdom Bolton-upon-dearne Bt Americas Inc

In addition to the thread you have mentioned I can see this issue of Plusnet using US addresses is also discussed here https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Feedback/IP-addresses-not-UK-Can-customers-please-report-any-p...

The info below kind of makes Gradwells claims a bit silly - copied from your last post, @1R27cD5n .
IP Location United Kingdom United Kingdom Bolton-upon-dearne Bt Americas Inc
ASN United Kingdom AS6871 PLUSNET UK Internet Service Provider, GB (registered Dec 13, 1996)

to quote from the 49 page thread 'using whois data for geo-location is fairly shoddy'
If Gradwell are doing so, then they ought to know better...
@1R27cD5n until Gradwell get their act together, a solution for you would to be to request a static IP from PlusNet, there's an option in the member centre. These are allocated from different IP ranges and so shouldnt cause similar problems. There is a one-off charge of £5 though.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Agreed - in their job, if they can't use their eyes and brains together, they shouldn't be there.

This is still rambling on, other 0800 numbers are now being blocked by Gradwell, including other calls to BT.
They state there is nothing they can do to help, but that I must unblock any phone numbers with a US originating IP, they also stated OFCOM have changes some rules (what ever they maybe) that has brought this all about.
Today they unblocked one IP that Tech Suppt adamantly claim is a US located address:
https://whois.domaintools.com/150.143.77.242
Can someone help me conclude from the above link that the IP LOCATION is: 'United Kingdom Barnet Bt Americas Inc'
The Tech Suppt call handler said the IP location was taken from the registrant info listed:
OrgName: BT Americas, Inc
OrgId: BA-346
Address: 910 Hastings Ave. Suite 120
City: Newport
StateProv: MN
PostalCode: 55055
Country: US
Who is correct, is the above IP a UK or US address ... and am I going mad.
Thanks.
