Why is the 500mbps FTTP tariff always giving me 300mbps download speeds?

I was on FTTP 74 meg download and when doing speed checks with ethernet I was only getting about 50mbps any time of the day. Swapping the supplied plusnet router with a Unifi Dream Machine router made no difference.

I upgraded to the 500mbps tariff and now only ever get a download speed of 300mbps on a good day normally about 290. I don't understand where the slow down is happening.

I could understand this slow down happening if I was on fibre to the cabinet due to crosstalk and the distance from the cabinet etc, but I'm on fibre to the premises.

Are you testing over a wired or WiFi connection?

I'm connecting to either the Plusnet router or a Unifi Dream Machine Pro with an ethernet cable, any time day or night i get about half the advertised speed.

Thanks - that rules out any WiFi problems.

Looking at your download and upload speeds I'm wondering if you've been provisioned on the FF300 service. on the FF500 products upload should be near 75.

That might make sense because, initially i signed up to the FF300 service, but the next day I called to upgrade to the FF500.

Maybe it never got re-provisioned to 500. What's the best way forward? I've called the support lines to many times, but they just don't listen. They keep saying, it's within the tolerances and I need to live with it.

@bmc Looking at those results, it appears they are provisioned on the 500 service, but something (equipment/settings?) is restricting it.

It's a bit odd that the BT Wholesale IP profiles up and down are correct for Full Fibre 500 -

but the speed test up and down look like they would be for Full Fibre 300 -

Not that often, these days - but they do.

In days of old when knights were bold there was an FTTP wizard who frequented the Full Fibre (or FTTP Trial) forum. If a problem arose we just tagged him and lo and behold the problem got fixed.

Unfortunately he changed jobs within PN so that's out. You just need to wait a day ot two and see what happens. Staff are about - just not many of them.
