before I tried this I also rescanned forthe best channel to be on, forgot the wifi andshut down both devices for ten minutes and restarted the hub again, so not sure what the problem wasbut seems to have sorted it.  also had call logged with plusnet so maybe they sorted something at the same time? who knows but it is now working so thank you to everyone for helping

Glad it is sorted anyway. Apple devices do get their knickers in a twist on occasion, and a full reset usually sorts it.
