Changeover to BT Digital Voice

Hopefully someone can help.
My father-in-law is a plusnet customer in one of the areas which are soon to change over to BT Digital Voice.
He is quite elderly and is confused by what is happening.

Can he remain with Plusnet for voice calls and broadband or will he need to change over to BT?
At the moment he does not have the Plusnet Hub 2 but I assume this will need to be changed an some point before the changeover to digital voice.

@CraigW Is your father-in-law with Plusnet for both phone and broadband - on ADSL or FTTC. Which exchange is he on?

@CraigW

At the moment he doesn't need to do anything. When the time comes PN will advise on his options.

The current change to his Exchange status relates to new orders or upgrades. So long as he stays with PN on his current provision he is fine.

Not necessarily. Whilst this short term advice is relevant for the majority of exchange areas, there are areas where ongoing PSTN service is scheduled to be restricted before too long.

@bobpullen

One assumes that if this happens then PN will advise customers on their options.

@bmc - that's my understanding. I recall contributing to a thread round these parts fairly recently where somebody had received a notification from us.

So would I be safe in telling him to do nothing?

Do you know which exchange his service is provisioned on?

Re: Changeover to BT Digital Voice

@CraigW

Right, Mildenhall changes things a bit. Read the link in #5

He needs to phone PN to see what's happening - might be better if you were there as well as there might be security issues if you phoned on his behalf. A support member of staff ( @bobpullen is Admin) might pick up here to offer general advice or to open a support ticket which you can view.

PN should be in a position to offer advice.

BT Digital Voice is simply BT's version of VOIP. There are other providers. He might need a new phone as well or at least an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor).

Re: Changeover to BT Digital Voice

This will be an interesting case study. PN fo not offer digital voice services or SOGEA broadband…
