Phone call knocking off internet

Haha makes sense. You wouldn't happen to have another router, would you?

Line tests are still showing a problem so I think the router itself is broken in a way.

Not a fibre one, no. I've just got my old bog standard Plusnet one from before we upgraded. I'm assuming this wouldn't be compatible?

Yeah that wouldn't be compatible unfortunately.

No worries, I've just arranged to send you a new router now, which you should either receive this week or early next week.

Sorry for the delay!

Unfortunately when I set up the new router (I used all the new cables) it just sat with a flashing orange light.  I plugged the old router in on the new cables and that connected fine.  I unplugged the router and tested the phone again but am still getting no dial tone.  My aim was to pop into town today and buy another phone however the cheapest I could find was £30!!  So apologies, we're still not up and running smoothly but I do intend to test the line with a new phone when I can find one!

@bazalfoster Try Argos for the phone - they have some corded ones at around £10-£12 which should do fine. Can't remember - do you use the landline?

No worries. Based on the trial and error I've done with you, I don't think the issue's with your phone handset but the router  unless you get no dial tone even without your router plugged in?

As for the new router, could you set it back up again then take photos of the setup showing the front and back?

Unfortunately there's no dial tone without the router plugged in. I'm in the office this week too so will get a new phone when I can and try to sort things when I'm back home!

Huge, Huge, HUGE apologies for not getting back sooner. Had a lot going on.  Also, internet has been working on the old router OK since last message so we've still been able to WFH.  However, can't just toddle along without a working landline so today is the day I pull my finger out!  Also, Openreach have been doing a lot of work on our estate including in the access point in front of our house so was intrigued if a known fault had been fixed..

Anyway:

- phone calls are no longer knocking off the internet but when answered only a crackling noise (Phone dialing in now keeps ringing rather than cutting off on answer)

- no dial tone using cabled phone bought after last message

- plugged new router back in and still won't connect to internet as before

Hi there, no worries! I've just been running some diagnostic tests on your connection which are showing signs of a line fault (high resistance cable fault) so we'll need to arrange an engineer visit with you to get that sorted out. 

Could you let me know your availability in these  slot times which we cab book Monday to Friday?

AM = 08:00 to 13:00

PM = 13:00 to 18:00

Guilty as charged! Sorry! I've reported the fault but didn't get the option to book an appointment which can sometimes happen, we should be able to get one booked after and hour or two for you though.
