Porting number out of Plusnet before contract end

Just a quick sanity check...

If I request my landline number to be ported out by a VOIP provider - that will automatically signal a cease on the Plusnet broadband and phone? Then my early cancellation charges (that I've already checked in on) will just kick in?

I've got 6 months to go but even with the charges I'd still save a decent wedge of cash.

Any insights welcome.

Thanks!

@philwelbourn

If you're leaving PN then this is the case as far as I know.

However, if you're moving to another internet supplier that uses the OR network then you should let them do the internet transfer first and then port the number. You should have 30 days to do so but it should be ASAP. Automatic porting will probably fail and you need to the VOIP provider to contact the BT Wholesale (who are the owner of the number) porting department to manually do the port.

If you do it your way you could get a 10 day block on the line before the new order can be placed.

Re: Porting number out of Plusnet before contract end

Thanks Brian.

That should be fine - I have two lines and the second one (not this one) accidentally ended up in a new cabinet and my VDSL speeds are almost maximum unlike this one that is old school and has crosstalked itself to death over the years - so all I want to do is safeguard my number and let the line itself fizzle out.

Thanks again!
