Talk Anytime plan versus paying for landline calls

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there's an easy way of working out if having a Talk Anytime Plan is better value that paying for individual calls?

UK calls are 19·62p per minute, with 30·09p set up fee, so a five minute call will be £1·28.

A call plan would be better unless your calling rate is pretty low,

I would set up a spreadsheet and cost up all the costs from the previous few months.

Or it's a case of doing it all manually. Remember there's a connection charge plus a call duration charge.

Thanks.  It would be accurate but a bit time consuming.  I think I'll make a rough average and see.

For a rough estimate count up the number of calls per month and multiply that by the connection charge. Then mentally roughly count up the total call time for the month and multiply that by the per minute charge. Add the two together.

Do landline and mobile calls separately.

Although we had it for 40 yrs we used landline less and less and were paying about £112 per year, worked out at £1 or more per call. Unlimited calls and texts with 1pmobile (uses EE network) £36 each for wife and self. Byebye call package, working out well in four months since then.

Thanks, I have considered this.  However our mobile reception is not always great so have discounted this for the moment.

Is your mobile phone capable, and does your mobile provider allow, WiFi calling? Most do these days. I have WiFi calling on one phone using 3 and another on Lebara.

Have you checked other providers? Having signed up for Vodafone (fortunately payg no contract) we found they had no signal at all around our area, and erratic in other parts of town. I bought a couple of sims at 50p each which let me try other providers' signal strengths in my own phone. Three was very good but then they trebled prices to stupid levels. EE was excellent so we signed up with 1pmobile which uses their network. Lebara by the way uses Vodafone so that was out.
