Android + ipv6 = trouble

Having severe issues with my Android tablets trying to get them to download from Play store.
It says there are updates waiting but can't download them.
Anybody else having same issues?

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Android phone is OK. Have had a number of updates since being on IPv6.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Well just tried to login using my "real" user id, and failed. Router rebooted and is logged in as the ipv6test user but as ipv4 ONLY. Updates are fine now. Will go back through setting it up as ipv6 again and see if it still fails.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

I've not seen any problems myself. Do you have IPv6 working on Android for other aspects eg web browsing etc?
You could try installing an app from the online Play store as this 'push' action can sometimes help resolve certain client-side 'pull' issues.
Edit: Ah, I see you're sorted now.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Nope the tablet is ipv4 only.
Logged in as my normal user and all apps updated fine. I was trying to PUSH an app when I noticed the updates were still trying to download from YESTERDAY, tablet on overnight.
Will reload my ipv6 config again and try to push another app.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

OK ipv6 config reloaded. Ping 6 works from pc
p6 2001:4860:4860::8888
PING 2001:4860:4860::8888(2001:4860:4860::8888) 56 data bytes

5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% packet loss, time 4005ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 32.170/32.505/33.028/0.305 ms

But a push install FAILS on the tablet, have dropped and reconnected the wifi connection, the download is just sitting at 0 (zero) % done.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

It's the IPv6 on the Android that you need to be concerned about. Try something like Network Stats II to verify IPv4/6 addresses are being assigned (and/or online test sites).

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

But since I can't get stuff to install in v6 mode...
EDIT:
OK loaded v4 config, pushed IPCONFIG to tablet and reloaded the v6 config.
The tablet HAS an ip v6 address, and I can ping it from the pc using its v6 address.
Test-ipv6.com shows 10/10 on the tablet.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Further testing shows the issue is ONLY with play updates/installs.
I can install from Amzon or onemobile fine with ipv6 enabled.
Installs (either from the market app or pushed) just sit there downloading at 0%.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

It usually works ok for me using a Tunnel-broker tunnel perhaps a routing issue between plusnet and google?
Is it possible to get a tracert posted?
Don't think android exposes options for disabling IPv6

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Strange thing is it works on my Phone (LG-610) but not on 2 generic Android tablets.
I tried just now pushing the phone copy of Phonesky (the market) on to a tablet and clearing the cache etc. Still just sits there.
Doing a google on it, only shows issues with one phone and it works if you go via a proxy. So not sure what to try next. Anybody know of a free proxy I can try?

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

For those who need it:
To disable ipv6 in android
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6
I added it to a startup script.

It's a shame you never got to the bottom of this one.

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

I really couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Using dns tools I had an ipv6 address fine, I could ping back and forward but play store just refused to download apps using ipv6, Amazon/one mobile were fine.
In the end I just disabled it, life’s too short.  Wink

Re: Android + ipv6 = trouble

Did you look at lowering the MTU to see if that made any difference?
