Unstable prefix delegation

Hi PN,
I've noticed over the past week or so that my assigned prefix keeps changing. It appears to be toggling between only two /56's but even so it plays havoc with the static address assignments I've got. Whilst I could automate the changes for some of them (although this would be a bit of hack) there are other devices that can only feasibly be changed manually.
I appreciate we are still in a trial phase and so disruption is to be entirely expected but I do hope our assignments would be more stable under the final deployment.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Not noticed here either (I'm assuming my IPv6 Think Broadband ping monitor would die if the prefix had changed?)
Although the connection has been up for over a month so I doubt there's been much opportunity for it to change. Might try a few PPP disconnects/reconnects when I next get the chance and see what happens.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Is there a lease on the /56 prefix addresses or are they static?

I believe they're supposed to be static.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Mine has changed once, a few weeks ago, I noticed because I had to update a bunch of AAAA records and firewall rules.  I figured that it was likely a side effect of changes made during the trial and so didn't worry too much.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Does it change when you connect to either PTW-BNG01 or PTN-BNG01 only? If it's always one of these 2 I might know why.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Before I spend time trying to hit one of those gateways, does IPSC go through them?

To be honest I'm not sure - how do I check?
I can certainly confirm that it appears to have only been following loss of connectivity below Layer 2, something which has happened quite a few times recently. The new prefix has been assigned post-reconnection.

http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/ or do a traceroute and look at your second hop.

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Thanks Andy. I'm on pcl-ag07 currently (and with my 'usual' prefix) and so will see what gateway I'm on if it changes again.

I've just had a forced reconnection and ended up with a new prefix. I am indeed now on PTN-BNG01...

Re: Unstable prefix delegation

Am now on PCL-AG03 and back to my 'normal' prefix.
Perhaps I ought to raise a fault as the disconnections are annoying in their own right regardless of the effect they're having on the prefix!
