IPv4 is a deprecated legacy protocol, and if you work in IT and you don't understand the basics of IPv6, you're deprecated and legacy too, going to be like knowing Cobol.
Some examples.
Microsoft have been actively switching all their internal networks to single stack IPv6.

If your phone service is with EE you've probably already experienced ipv6-only:

There are already colo or hosting providers in the UK who only provide IPv6 by default and you have to pay extra for IPv4.
Sometime you'll be given only IPv6 by your ISP for domestic service and you'll have to pay extra for v4.

You just beat me too it - puts a bit of a kibosh on roll-out of IP6 by Plusnet if non of the Plusnet supplied routers properly support it

I'm a recent Plusnet ADSL customer, having abandoned TalkTalk when the initial contract ran out (which I only took because they had free phone line installation offer).
I was issued with a Sagemcom 2704N, a pretty basic ADSL modem/router/AP (single-band wifi). It gives me a bit over 20Mb/s download. If I go to the "expert page" at http://192.168.x.y/expert_user.html it shows IPv6 capabilty, this is with "firmware 7.275.6_F2704N_Plusnet".
TalkTalk issued me with a Huawei HG633. In theory it should be better, as it has dual band wifi, and to try it out I put in my plusnet adsl credentials and it worked. Bandwidth wasn't as good, a bit under 16Mb/s download! It too in theory has IPv6 capability but TT don't have that.
My main circuit is FTTC with Zen, I signed up when they first began to offer native IPv6. Is great!

If a customer needs IPv6 then they'll do what happens in any walk of life - they'll find a supplier who meets their needs and move to them.
Which is what I did. Switched to Zen about a month ago.

Plusnet's variant of the firmware could support it though?

The latest firmware makes no mention of it in the UI.
If it helped click the thumb
If it fixed it click 'This fixed my problem'

Mine has an IPv6 section, where it just says something to the effect that settings will appear when Plusnet provide IPv6.

I find it surprising that there is still no news on this.
BT and Sky both now provide IPv6. Virgin Media are moving towards it - link.
The glaring omission is TalkTalk - I've seen nothing about their plans. As Plusnet see TalkTalk as their main competitor in the race to the bottom this problem explains Plusnet's complacency.
My guess is that TalkTalk are keeping things under wraps. When they do launch IPv6 where is that going to leave Plusnet?

Be careful what you link to.
The Register highlights that only 26.3% of the top 1000 websites are accessible over IPv6

that was sort of why I linked to the article! they point out that there are now really, actually, yep they've all gone, no more ipv4 addresses left yet many isp's ( hello plusnet, are you reading?), etc, are doing SFA about switching ip ipv6 when they really should be getting on the case.
