An Update on our Usenet/News service (news.plus.net)

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share an update regarding the complimentary Usenet newsgroup service.

We've made the decision to retire our Usenet newsgroup server, hosted at news.plus.net. As we continue to focus on simplifying our business and doing what we do best, delivering straightforward reliable broadband.

When is it happening?

The news.plus.net server will be switched off at the beginning of June 2025

What does it mean for me?

If you are still using news.plus.net, you'll need to switch to an alternative provider before June 2025 if you wish to continue accessing Usenet.

Once we switch the server off, any attempts to connect to news.plus.net with your newsreader software will fail. You'll likely see server connection errors or authentication failures and access to all groups previously available via this server will stop. To prevent these errors, remove the Plusnet news server configuration from your newsreader software.

How can I continue accessing Usenet?

You'll need to sign up with a third-party Usenet provider. There are plenty to choose from.

One popular free alternative is 'Eternal September', you can find more details on their website here - https://www.eternal-september.org/

These third-party services will give you access to global Usenet groups, but you will no longer be able to access the private Plusnet newsgroups.

Thank you for being with Plusnet
