14-day cooling off period

I renewed my contact on the 2nd April. It was in a panic as Plusnet decided to change me over £60 this month.
I'm thinking of moving to a different boardband provider as over the last year my Plusnet boardband keeps dropping out.
I was checked with different providers, and Plusnet sent me an email and text saying I'd have £426.67 to pay if I left now. What about the cooling down period?

@NBClarke2302 If you renew a contract, I have a feeling that the 14 day 'cooling off' period doesn't apply - I seem to think that only applies on an initial contract.

If your broadband keeps 'dropping out' - have you raised this with PN? If you move to another ISP who uses the BT/OR infrastructure, that issue will follow you.

Re: 14-day cooling off period

@jab1 the cooling off period still applies to a re-contract. However I suspect the OP would need to advise Plusnet that they wished to cancel the re-contract and revert to the out-of-contract basis. They could then change to a new supplier with no ETCs.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Thanks for the clarification, @MisterW  - my 'feeling' was wrong, for which I apologise 😉.

They would still have the perceived 'drop out' issue though.

Re: 14-day cooling off period

@jab1 I have just upgraded to FTTP (not yet installed) and one of the documents supplied titled "Your Cancellation Rights" has the following text

14 days distance selling

You have up to 14 days from tomorrow OR the day before your service goes active to
cancel your order, whichever is the later.
If you cancel within this period, you will be refunded any money that you have paid,
excluding any services that you have used or connection fees.

I believe the 14 day cooling off period applies to any agreement to a service contract, including re-contracting or upgrading.

In which case the demand for £400+ must apply to the new contract which as @MisterW  says can be avoided by cancelling the re-contract. 🙄
