CPI+ x% billing

Has PN joined the rest of the BT family with the blanket £3pm annual price increase now? Whilst I think it is good to know the value of any increase (better would be no increases during contract period), I am sort of glad my increase is still on the CPI rate, so will "only" increase £1.79pm.

Re: CPI+ x% billing

Yup this falls into the “be careful what you ask for” paradigm.

CPI+x% (an inflation tracking increase) would have been far cheaper than the “feels more comfortable” fixed figure. As ever, Ofcom is no friend to Joe Public whom they are supposed to “protect”.

Uswitch : Plusnet price increase 2025 : what can customers do ?

Given that Plusnet are now seen as the no frills, broadband only, no extra features brand within the BT group,

currently Plusnet's pricing is only just below other ISPs with more substantial offerings and who rarely raise prices.

A couple of years of adding a blanket £3pm to Plusnet prices will destroy the slim price advantage they have now.

Re: CPI+ x% billing

There is a difference between cheap and value for money. I pay more than many Plusnet customers, but I get much better value for money with my ISP. A few more annual rises, and Plusnet won't even be cheap.

How do you measure that?

If both offer the same connectivity service, but one offers more bells and whistles for an extra charge, it can only be "better value for money" if those extras deliver measurable value to the individual.

For many users, they do not need various the add-ons provided by other providers.

Better customer service is often cited as a differentiator ... but that only comes into play when something goes wrong.  In my experience, when there are protracted issues, which are usually down to BT Openreach ... a challenge shared by all ISPs using their infrastructure.

Re: CPI+ x% billing

@Townman, you are correct that value for money is subjective.

Even if I could get FTTP from Plusnet (I can't actually get any broadband from them, as the only OR service available to me is SOADSL and Plusnet don't offer that), then the upload wouldn't be anything near the 600+Mps I have currently. For me that alone more than justifies the slightly higher cost.

I also get a static IP (unfortunately only IPv4), and service updates by SMS and email - both of which are valuable for a home worker such as myself. I know Plusnet provides a static IP as a legacy product for existing customers - but removing that option for new customers decreased their value for money for anyone that needs a static IP. My ISP also offers VoIP for £5pm should you want it (I use sipgate for £0).

If you want anything in addition to broadband, then I'd suggest Plusnet are no longer value for money as by the time you have found separate suppliers for all the add-ons you want it would be cheaper through an ISP that can offer them all.

Re: CPI+ x% billing

If one needs faster (symmetric?) uploads, then one is very much into a different ball park, certainly not looking at like for like.

Not having BT Fibre infrastructure available completely moves the goalposts, probably giving rise to a rather restricted choice.

For those who want it, the lost of the fixed IP address (at an additional charge) was probably the last bell / whistle around here falling off the train for new customers.

So sad how far Plusnet has fallen under BT management...

  • Decent broadband at fair prices
  • Landline phone service
  • VoIP phone service
  • 24x7 residential customer support
  • Included email
  • Included website
  • Included mailing lists
  • Included fax 2 mail
  • Optional fixed IP address
  • Free domain name
  • Asynchronous support by tickets
  • Sports TV option
  • Mobile phones

Did I miss anything?  TBH there's not much left in their offer, though to be fair virtually no ISP offers anything approaching the above list these days.

They also used to provide:

  • business broadband - although the only differences to residential broadband were:
    • longer telephone support opening times
    • VAT receipt (when the billing system was working)
    • T&Cs allowed working from home unlike the current residential T&C's which outlaw it

Re: CPI+ x% billing

Hey Everyone. I`m currently paying £26.99p a month for FF at 145mbps. Last time I did a speed test it was around 86mbps. But I don`t feel that`s slow or laggy. If it was then I`d need to look into it. That price will go to £29.99p in march! But I knew this when I recontracted from FTTC to FF around October last year. I`ll see another £3.00 rise March 2026.

I agree that including `extras` is good IF the customer needs/uses those and is happy to pay for them. I never did because all I need is the broadband now. Our landline went at the same time as the FF kicked in. Sigh of the times I guess but also frustrating as with a lot of things going on these days and the `nudge` units at play mandating that everyone switches to this or change to that....or be left behind.

Plusnet for me has been brilliant. I left BT years ago due to their adding in BT Sport and overbilling me without consent and causing me a lot of anxiety. I can`t fault Plusnet.
