Installation line charge?

I signed up yesterday for unlimited fibre extra, 12 month contract. I'm a bit concerned that I could be charged £49.99 if my phone line is "not compatible". I'm currently with BT and have a fully working line - am I going to get charged?

Re: Installation line charge?

@flybabyman

A warm welcome to the forum.

Where did that phrasing come from?

If the line is fully working on the BT infrastructure (that is it is NOT LLU [think Sky / Now / Talk Talk] or  cable provider such as Virgin Media) and therefore no BT engineering work is required at the exchange or the local cabinet, then there is normally no installation charge.

Where the migration is from a non-BT network provider requiring any BT engineering work, the an installation charge is likely.  The switch of a LLU service to BT Wholesale certainly involves engineering work and the restart of a stopped line might also require engineer attendance.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Installation line charge?

Hi Townman,

Thanks for your reassuring reply. The 'phrasing' is taken from the residential terms and conditions section -

"For new Plusnet customers that sign up for 12 or 18 months (as appropriate). Line rental is included in the price (line only, no calls included). Price from month 13 or 19 (as appropriate) currently £47.54 a month (incl. line rental). Compatible line required otherwise a £49.99 installation charge may apply (excluding any external construction charges)."
