renewal in a month warning.. see offers!

I had an email off Plusnet a month ago (Dec 2023) saying my renewal was up soon... (2 months time -Feb 2024).. I looked at the next contract prices and thought.. no thanks!

I just had another one now.. month early this time and it was more favourable... I thought i can't be bothered to change suppliers for this small difference.. so I checked everything to make sure it was exactly the same and went for it.. Now I find my current contract has ended!

I went on to the chat and spoke to someone about this. They didn't 'get it' at all just ignored the the issue I brought up and passed over it and said well you're still ok and have a current service.

I was annoyed that it was ignored and said 'you didn't get it' at all'

they replied all is fine and followed by a standard  'when you have finished the chat leave feedback'

I just typed.. 'that was rude'

They followed by I understand..

I left the chat then..

There was nothing to tell you that renewal just ends you current contract that they are reminding you will end in a period of time. I'm fortunate that my renewal is not much different; but what if I had been on a really good deal and got suckered for the new one two months early that was a much higher price? You'd lose out immediately.

I'd ignore the renewals in future and go for the last day of my contract but you need to give a month's notice. If you don't find something cheaper you get hammered by the default no contract charge.. in my case it would have been more than double my current monthly charge!

They have you by the short and curlies!

@grazuncle

I read this post a few days ago which might go some way in explaining the ins and outs of what can happen when renewing;

Thought it's worth me noting that if a contract is renewed over the phone, it'll begin on the next billing date. If renewed online, then more often than not, it'll start the next working day as @Baldrick1 says.

Re: renewal in a month warning.. see offers!

Thanks RobPN

I think many would like a choice to do what they want if they knew this in advance.. then none could moan about it. I probably would have just kept quiet and wouldn't have posted this if it had not been for the lack of any feeling from the online chat person.. no names obviously..
A friendly reaction is always appreciated even if they can't do anything...
Turns out they could have mentioned taking up the cooling off period and renewed later.. But not suggested.
Hope this helps someone else.. Like you did 👍🏻🙂
