FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Longterm Plusnet customer upgrading from Unlimited Fibre Extra to FullFibre 500.

I understand there are issues with Hub delivery due to Royal Mail strike action, but I can't get access to any online info on the upgrade via the website (order not found or page error using the links in the engineer appointment email).

Can anyone tell me if the hub has been dispatched?

Openreach engineer due on Thurs morning (13th Oct).

Thanks

@ChrisBee

Worst case senario is you can use your Hub1 - just plug an ethernet cable into the red WAN port. You may not get full speeds due to Hub1 limitations but you will be online.

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

@bmc - thanks for the quick reply.

Just read about using hub1 as an interim and seems like it would do in a pinch (upload speed improvementis one of my main reasons for upgrading), but would be useful to be able to confirm if the Hub 2 has actually been dispatched.

At least if it doesn't show as despatched then hopefully someone can follow up on that and ensure it goes it ASAP (I understand delivery time is still highly variable due to Royal Mail action).

Thanks.

@ChrisBee Will be faster to phone Plusnet as the forum staff response time is measured in days (average for a replay from staff is about 3 days currently)

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Thanks. Have tried ringing a couple of times but the lines are always pretty busy. I'll keep trying periodically over the next few days before the engineer turns up on Thurs.

Shame the order status update tool doesn't seem to work for my order though - would save everyone a lot of wasted time. Last time I upgraded a few years back the online tool worked really well so I could check the current status of the order.

What is the Hub 1 upload bandwidth capped at - 30MBps?

Thanks.

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

I believe that is the figure Bob Pullen (the Plusnet router guru) quoted last week in another thread. Given all the issues with Openreach strikes currently, if I was you, I would chase your order and get confirmation that everything is on track. The routers are still being dispatched in a just in time manner but the Royal Mail strikes are slowing down deliveries.

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Thanks @SpendLessTime - good point on the OpenReach industrial action - had forgotten about that too.
I guess if I can't get through in time I'll see what happens on Thurs.

If there are any issues I'll just have to resign myself to a lot of time in phone queues trying to get things sorted. Still, hopefully it won't come to that!

Thanks everyone for you're responses so far.

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Fix

Hi @ChrisBee,

I've manually placed the order for your new hub, so it should be dispatched soon. Our systems would've done this though approx. 2 working days before the engineer appointment date.

Having checked your full fibre order, the external work's completed, so all's on track for the engineer arriving on Thursday.

Let us know how it goes. Smiley

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Hi @Gandalf,

Many thanks for following up on this - I'll keep an eye out for the delivery over the next few days. As others have suggested I can always get by with the current Hub 1 for a few days if needed.

Thanks also for confirming that the external work should have been done. Fingers crossed the Openreach engineer visit goes smoothly on Thursday.

I'll report back once all is up and running - looking forward to it!!

Re: FFTP upgrade due on 13th October - how can I find out if new router has been dispatched yet?

Just to complete this thread - all up and running, and hub 2 turned up day before (thanks @Gandalf )

Openreach engineer turned up on time today and it all went pretty smoothly. Got 495MBit down / 75MBit up on the Full Fibre 500 package - so pretty happy with that (and that's over WiFi, not ethernet).

Thanks again everyone for your help and advice - much appreciated!
