FTTP engineer appointment

Waiting for an Openreach Engineer to visit between 8am and 1pm today to install FTTP. PN emails suggest engineer will text or phone before visiting. No text or phone call yet. Is there any way of checking when the engineer might arrive?

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Sorry, he may not. Openreach staff are on a series of strikes including October 24. Of course there will be a backlog from today's list of repairs and installations ...

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Thanks for letting me know. It would have been good if Plusnet/Openreach had let me know this before I took the morning off!

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Finally received a brief text from Plusnet stating that my FTTP installation has been delayed (I presume because of the strike as no reason given) Now what? Will Plusnet contact me to book another time for the Openreach engineer to visit or do I need to phone Openreach? Trying to get through to PN phone support. However seems to be a very long wait....... As a new customer I am not too impressed with PNs communication.

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Fix
Got through to PN telephone support and they were very helpful. Engineer visit is now going to be rescheduled to a convenient time shortly. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all works out next time.

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

@PSD248 I would google for the list of known strike dates at Openreach just in case you get one of those days for your next install appointment so that you can get it moved straight away. As has been seen on this forum Openreach are still making appointments for those days even though they have no idea who will actually turn up to work!

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

That's a good idea. As soon as the new appointment is confirmed I will check. Thanks for the advice.

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

I think I read somewhere that is currently it for the strikes and they'll need to ballot the members before any more, so hopefully you'll all be done before any more happen.

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Thanks for the link. Hopefully next engineer appointment (when confirmed) will go ahead. From what I understand I should get automatic compensation from Plusnet as my activation date has now been delayed.

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

@PSD248 You mentioned calling Openreach ... hopefully not needed, but be aware that we mere customers cannot call OR. All comms must go through your ISP whoever you have chosen, they in turn pass the info on to you the customer. In fairness to PN they too are often in the dark re cancelled appointments, delays caused by snags on preceding jobs etc and with 1.4 million customers it must be hard to keep everyone posted. I don't think you will find other ISPs any different unless they have their own network eg Virgin. I could tell you a story about them too ...

Re: FTTP engineer appointment

Plusnet customer support have actually been quite good once I got through to them. They phoned back today to say that they were chasing up Openreach to sort out the engineer appointment. Openreach have now contacted via text message to arrange an appointment for next week. Hopefully it will all go through smoothy then. I chose Plusnet based on positive reviews and to leave my current ISP who are hopeless. Looking forward to getting going with PN. Have already found the Plusnet community to be a great help. Thanks all.
