Junction box outside?

So I was pushed from pillar to post today, from plusnet, to BT, to open reach and back to plusnet. as I'm due to move house in 3 weeks time I wanted to switch my BB to new property, however there was no box inside the property.
I found what appears to be a junction box outside today.. From what I can tell there was previously a porch and that has now been demolished, so my guessing is the box has just been left on the outside of the property 🤷🏻‍..
Seeing as it shows there's an active line plusnet or OR might not want to install new line, but a new line is needed as it's outside.. I've been almost in tears today going back and forth and have someone from the plusnet team looking into it, I'm just wondering if anyone else can shed some light on the situation..
There are photos in album if anyone what's to see them

Re: Junction box outside?

@Ro_s So,  what king of service are you having - FTTC or Full Fibre? What is this 'junction box' Is the property served by overhead or underground cables?

If there is an 'active line' then all that is needed is the internal connection.

Welcome to the forums, BTW.

Re: Junction box outside?

There are pictures in my album if you can view them.
We currently have broadband and am switching like for like service I think.
There is an active line from what I'm aware, I think the guy I spoke to today confirmed the line was active

Re: Junction box outside?

That looks like a standard phone connection to me, but whoever was in there previously wanted to make life difficult for whoever moved in.

Openreach will have to come out and refit your outside equipment. What is the inside cabling/connection like - if you've been inside?

Re: Junction box outside?

There is nothing inside, this is what I've been trying to tell everyone... Absolutely no phoneline sockets inside the property at all, only that sorry looking thing outside.

Re: Junction box outside?

If you are certain of that, then it appears the Master socket was in the porch - unusual, but not unknown. As I said, this will need Openreach to pay you a visit and sort things out. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm only a Community member, so can only go on what you say and what I can see in those pictures.

What is on the other side of the white square?

Re: Junction box outside?

It could be the Master socket, but it is hard to tell - the other side of it would be more help. As I have said though, you need to let Plusnet know that Openreach will have to attend to sort this out.

Re: Junction box outside?

@Ro_s  is the property empty at the moment?

It sounds like it has been recently refurbished, and all the phone line stuff just ripped out.

If this is the case I suspect all you can do is report a fault as soon as you are able to start your contract, and be nice - lots of tea or coffee and maybe a choccy biscuit or two - when the openreach engineer comes out to fix the line.

At least you should be able to ask them to put the line where it works best for you and not shoved away in the porch, or by the front door.

Re: Junction box outside?

@Mustrum does the white lump look like an old style master socket to you? - rather difficult to decide.

@Ro_s

Have you looked at the Checker to see what's available at your new address?

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Use the address version, enter the post code only and select the address from the drop down list.

If you can post a screen image of the results (hiding your address) that would help.

Re: Junction box outside?

@jab1   as you say hard to be sure.

Alas if an active line is reported, until @Ro_s  takes it over there is not a lot more they can do.

If it is a rental property the responsibility lies with the previous tenant, and Openreach may well want to charge for the reconnection and damage to their property. Were it me I would be seeking reassurance from the landlord that they will cover those costs, the same if it is a new purchase. - don't know how much, but Openreach charge £150 is for a master socket move.

Much may depend on how quick the OP "needs" internet, and if they have factored extra costs

Re: Junction box outside?

Looking at the photo of the white box, it looks like a 1 gang box with a blanking plate on it. It might have been used as a connection point between external and internal cables which went to the master socket.
