Re: Moving Home will Router just work ?

Fix

If one were to go to the trouble of repurposing one of the RJ45 cables and butchering the loft end of the cable, one might consider routing the unfiltered A/B pair (rather than the filtered data side) down to the socket and put both the phone and the router there.

Back to the topic title - the router might well work, but not necessarily with the installed wiring!

That was my thoughts. In fact looking at the master socket, its not a filtered one anyway... Its just a basic 5c with no Mk4 faceplate

Re: Moving Home will Router just work ?

Bit of back story from the house owner - Openreach came to do the overhead cable and as its a Passive House they could not start drilling holes in the walls - The roof space is ventilated with 300mm vents at each end so gave an ideal route into the loft and fit the master socket by the data cables. Internet is working fine right now - but with the router in the loft and 24 inch thick ceiling makes the Wi Fi signal in the house rather week. So making use of the data cables is the plan.

You'd think that the builders would have planned for that and put in a cable to a phone socket as well.

So you’ll be shopping for WiFi APs to put in the end of the data cables!!

Analogue phones are going to be a bind - beyond locating a DECT base station in the loft.
