Moving early from BT to Plusnet

Hello,

My current FTTP contract with BT ends in November - I am currently paying £49.99 per month for the 500mbps service.

If I was to cancel now and move to Plusnet for same speed priced at £39.99 would I make back what I would have to pay in termination fees to BT?

Thanks!

Re: Moving early from BT to Plusnet

If Plusnet Full Fibre 500 is £39.99 pm, the short answer is a definite 'No' imho.

Plusnet Full Fibre 500 has been as low as £31.99 to new customers as recently as last week ?  The price frequently changes.

At £31.99, the answer is still 'No' imho. See calculations below:

You need to ask BT what are your early termination fees would be.

https://www.bt.com/help/account-and-billing/manage-account/thinking-of-leaving-bt-

Using their example are reference.

You currently pay £49.99 pm

deduct 20% VAT brings it to £41.66 pm

deduct saving of £15 pm (this figure might not be fixed?), brings it to £26.66

deduct 1% for early receipt.  £26.39

add VAT, brings early termination fee of £31.67 pm (Check with BT)

5 months left on BT contract to Nov 2023, brings total early termination charges payable to whopping £158.35.

Let's say you stay with BT till November.  The cost is £49.99 - £31.99 = £18 pm.  or total of £90 over 5 months compared to cost of Plusnet FF 500.   £90 is lower than the £158 of early termination charges.

Note there are annual price rises on 31st March 2024 and 2025 too.  If you start or renew a 24 month contract in November, it could cost an extra £30 to £50 by the time the contract ends in November 2025.
