Sorry folks, i'm back!!

I bit the bullet and returned to PN today, with activation hopefully on 1st July. How long are closed account usernames held for? I tried to sign up and use my old account, but had to add a "2" to the end of it as my old account name is still on file, I thought it would have been released by now, or at least given the opportunity to sign up with it again. Bit of a bummer really, as it is another username to remember. First world problems I know, and not an issue, just a question.

Sometimes it would useful to have a thumbs down button but not in this case, welcome back…

@Marksfish

As soon as you close an account you can't re-use the name.

A bit of a shame that really. I suppose it saves account switching on too regular a basis, but I think I am now on account username 3 or 4, it does get confusing when trying to clear out my saved passwords 😀

Nothing to do with that, its GDPR. Account information must be retained for a considerable period and if the account name was allowed to be reused, some previous information may be available to the new account holder. Fine if its the same person, but if someone else chose it !!

Can't help thinking companies use GDPR as an excuse lots of the time: for example, here, if it was the same person, it'd be handy for that person to pick up the old name. (And there'd be no danger of data access, if it were the same person.)

@G6JPG-0 I don't know about other CPs, but Plusnet, AFAIK, have always blocked re-use of account names, even before GDPR (and its UK predecessor) were even glints in the legislators eyes.

Re: Sorry folks, i'm back!!

I'm beginning to regret my decision already, I have just seen the new router does not support split wifi bands (a backwards step I feel) 🙄 I have always separated my bands as I like to keep my 2.4 and 5 items apart. I could by a replacement router, but that then negates any savings made by opting to switch 😕

Hmmmmmm.

Re: Sorry folks, i'm back!!

Looks like I may be able to use my old Technicolor TG589vac v2 router I previously used on my PN FTTC connection 😀. It appears to support FTTP and I know all its little quirks. Was a cracking little unit which gave faster speeds on FTTC, although I know it will have no effect on FTTP.  I am currently using it as a wireless repeater, so need to find out another old router to take its place.

@Marksfish from what I can see , yes, it's got a WAN port so should work on FTTP. My only concern would be if you've gone for one of the higher speed (500 or 900) options. It's quite an old spec router and can it handle the NAT throughput at those speeds ?

Re: Sorry folks, i'm back!!

I'm a tightwad and saw the 300 service offered for a significantly lower price, so went with that. The 150 we are currently on is good enough for our needs, so don't really need anything higher at the moment.
